Edsel Teletouch Problems...help!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jalopy Kid, Mar 24, 2010.

  1. Hi, I have a 58 Ranger with a teletouch shifter. Last summer the shifter worked great. Over the winter I pulled the engine and ****** for a rebuild, put it all back in, and now it will not shift.
To start the car I have to wiggle the shift rod on the ******. The ****ons on the wheel don't appear to be doing anything, no relays or solenoids clicking, nothing at all.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I think the the teletouch has a setup similar to a horn ****on except more elaborate,it should have a copper ring,or rings ? With carbon brushes to make contact at any wheel position. You may have dirty contacts,or no power to the switches.I read that they had troubles with that system when it came out in the 50's so maybe there's a gremlin with a pompadour in there screwing with it,good luck.
