This is my theory too. I may not drive it but I can appreciate it.

Okay everyone, my whole point has been made! I've heard this for 20 years at every car orienated get together I spent my time on the road to attend. Everyone wants to argue and be right.....well your all Right! I owned over 250 cars by the time I was 23, now 1000s, & built 100s for customers. I'm still in business because I have open diverse ears. I get it....s.o.s..... <p>The people in the job market that cater to the "customer is always right" work in retail, with no scar tissue on their knuckles, eat Tofu, and wax their own eyebrows to impress others. I'm done with this thread.

I'll make 6 intelligent responses... but there is no "easy" answer and this has all been hashed to death.
    My take:

Traditional- designed to represent the golden era of hot rodding.... before the muscle cars. 1965 and under in most cases... styling and visual elements give the "feeling" of the bygone era... this can have modern crap like disc brakes and EFI under a closed hood.

Period Correct- Nothing newer than a certain point, with maybe a FEW minor or not obviously visible exceptions.. this can be '20s, 30's, '40s, '50s early or late, and so forth. Research and commitment are required. The results will speak for themselves...

What is "right"??? Depends on whose car it is, and what THEY want. So what?

Don't lose any sleep over this and run a search next time. :D

    Tasteful....tasteless

    Practical......ridiculous

    Chrome.......Billet

    Bias-ply........Radials

The bottom line is 99% of EVERYONE in this hobby are "hang-out" compatible. I really don't care for the billet laden, white letter tire cars that my Dad's friends have. But I love going and hanging out with them. They don't really get why I put so much effort to make "those drum brakes" work (45 fin buick) when I could buy discs. But we all dig old cars. And frankly we talk shit about each others cars. But we do so in good fun. I do respect those guys, and the rest of y'all for that matter.

  14. Don't go away too disappointed. If you deal with customers in your shop you should be used to the kind of banter-ish replies such as goes on here. Looks to me like the responses reflect a good sample of car collectors/restorers. I prefer period correct, but like looking at the other stuff too. I like BTB (before the Beatles) R&R & doo-wop music but'll listen to ABBA, Bob Wills & his Playboys, or *gulp* the Village People    once in awhile too. And no matter which is playing in the garage, some critic's gonna ask "how come...?" Life'd be pretty boring if we all drove '58 Checker cabs & listened to Lawrence Welk. ;)

Jeff, I think we had pretty good diversity at the ATL hamb and grits on sunday...

The rides were all over the board. Whats cool is that no assholes showed up huh?

Wish I could say the same for the this thread, but thats ok, it the type of thread that brings em out right?

I always look at the posters join date, and for the most part, fi they have been on here a while, their reply's are usually genuine and missing the smart ass "Here we go again" remarks that are often from the idiots that have only been here a year or two...

I'll try and swing by the shop in the next dahy or two...do a search for "Drag cars in motion"..... That thread is AAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWESOME!!!!!

    Cheers and beers

AW GEEZ just when I think I have the HAMB figured out, its all about the number of posts, now I learn its really all about the join date. Since your buddy had 250 cars before 18 and 1000's since and 100's built for customers maybe I and the board should go to him for the very question he poses, to this board. His only issue of shortcoming is trying to 'invent re/inventing the wheel' here, as you should know and might have counseled him. Searching will provide enough reading on the 'traditional' subject so that it might be impossible to make another point, that hasn't been already chewed up and spit out 20 times. It's just that simple, no 'cars are our religion' urgency. Have a black betty, and forget about the high emotion:

It's only a question I asked about the silent corner of a car show. I got my definition, I'm pleased with it, and I'm sure I'll learn the language. Only trying to see which direction to gear a project. Thanks so much to all for your advice.

hey 1959cac if the customers are paying you, and they are smiling when the leave, then the rest iss just so much b.s. and if you are happy with what you are doing for your customers and your own rides then you hve done your job, tom
