El Caminooooooooo

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by daign, Jul 20, 2007.

  1. Couple of my old ones that I no longer own. Both used as real parts and junk haulers as well as daily drivers. Ironically, both sold to out of country buyers. The 60 went to New Zealand and the 59 went to Sweden.

Be wary of rust, these El Caminos are prone to rust in the quarters, rear window, and floorboards. Hard to find one cheap that does not need a lot of work. Both of mine I did considrable work on, especially the 59.

So I thought I'd dig this out of the archives.

I found a '60 El Camino yesterday that is for sale. The body has some dings and some small rust spots on the rear fender wells. Now the bed is a different story, It's pretty much rusted out at the front of the bed. Before I try and get ahold of this guy again, is the bed a bitch to fix? The front of the bed is rusted through the width of the bed and about 6-10" back. There is some metal there, but I'm sure it would just be crap.

  4. 57 and 58 ElCaminos are SO rare! Most of them have been Hotrodded. That's why it's EXTREMELY hard to find a stock one. I'll start my search again, right after I find a virgin in Fontana with all her teeth.....

  5. The phantom 58 El Camino looks real good. I would drive it.

  6. I've seen that one cruising around Orange, all the time.

For unklgriz in Kalispell, you may be looking at the cover plate that was part of the fwd portion of the bed in the El Caminoes. The body was basically a station wagon body in 59 /60 and the cover plate hid what was the footwell area. Many owners hinged this cover and used it for storage.Oh yeah windshields interchange with station wagon also.Need floors? Station wagon. Been there, done that MANY times.

Thanks Don, I'll have to take a closer look at it. The only glass that is missing is the drivers window, the windsheild and rear glass are perfect, no cracks, chips, or rub marks at all. I'll have to get some pics of it.

59-60 caminos are coool but dont rule out big window 5-6-7 chev pickups or a 56 ford along with several other haulers. --------
i like 59-60 caminos drove a 60 for a year decided i didnt like it anymore so i made a call & sold it over the phone, delivered it to the guy.
all he did was look out his window & all he saw was the top of the roof & he wrote me a big ol check & i threw him the title.
dont ever plan to own another but they are a work of art!
