The SCTA is running at El Mirage on May 16th. I wanna go out there and check out the action. Is anyone planning on going or would like to go? This will be my first time out there so any tips that'll help a newbie would help. I know to plan for lots of heat and to pack a lot of water. Also, if anyone has a suggestion for where we could meet up? Directions are available on the SCTA Website And this is a long shot but does anyone have GPS coordinates for the area. I'm gonna have my GPS anyways so I thought I could load them up.
i WON'T be there,,, but i do know that winfield plans on runnin that little car he had at VEGAS,,, remember to bring plenty of beer,,, kisses
I watched "Uncle Gene" make two passes in the "Thing" out at El Mirage last October. It was pretty damn cool to see.
I shot these last October... I spot the car at the HRR on Friday, and saw it running the lake on Sunday!
I'll look for Gene and his car. Great shots Flying D. I gotta remember to pack my camera and lots of film.... er ah bytes!
Hey Duthcman, I was the goon out there in the black and white '57 Ford Ranch Wagon with two crazy Swedish passengers. My buddies Jeff and Nick were riding in Jeff's spot on flattie powered, black, high boy Model A Roadster. We all stopped there on our way back to Phoenix from the CHRR. Man, what a bitchin' deal that was out on the lake. I saw some of the pictures of our heaps on your website. Thanks for putting them up. Unfortunately all of the pictures that you posted here are showing up as red X's on my computer. Later, Mike
Hey! How's it goin'! Strange you get the red X's.... I talked to you Swedisch buddies over e-mail a bit a while ago... We have some pics in the "reader's rides" section and in the "events" section... Have you seen 'em all..? Just wanted to let ya know... We put up the ones Lars sent us not to long ago in the reader's rides. BTW... I can't wait to get ou to the lake again! But it's probably not gonna be before October..
Dutchman, thanks for the heads up on the pictures that Lars sent to you. It's been a while since I visited your site and I had not seen them before. Thanks for putting them on the site. Still, I can only see the thumbnails. When I try to view the individual pictures, I get the fabulous red X's. It must be the cheesy computers here at work. I'd like to go back to El Mirage sooner, but realisticly I think the next time I'll get there will be in October during the big Rattle Can Nats/CHRR/El Mirage road trip (ahhh.. nothing like a 1500 mile road trip driving a 50+ year old machine). Are you gonna be out here for the Antique Nationals by chance? If so, I hope to see you there. I'll be there for sure.

I'll be there crewing on the Kelly & Hall Lakester (#664) in the morning and I have Patrol in the afternoon. Wayno
I'm sure I'll be there, since I live about 15 minutes from there. I'll try to round up some of the other desert Hamb crew too. I may go Saturday too, to watch them practice.. Lets try to figure out a meeting place..
Is that the "Lars" that writes for Wheels magazine? I met a Lars this past weekend at Dewey that was doing shots for Wheels and he was the nicest guy. Chris Nelson Kansas

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, I'm gonna be up in Big Bear 4-wheeling from Thursday through Saturday and I'll be driving down from Big Bear to El Mirage Sunday morning.
A meeting place would depend on where they put the cars and support vehicles, motorhomes, etc of the racers, then if they seperate out the spectators, and non-race related people. I can go Saturday to scout things out. Some of us will also be there saturday, and if I can find you, then I can sort out where we'll meet for the Sunday crowd. So I guess if you havent given a car # out, I wont find you, unless you hang a HAMB sign in your camp..... or write it on your forehead, and I'll see you walking about. Or PM me some phone#'s so I can call you.....
just so y'all know, they don't practice @ Elmo, they also don't segregate the competitors from the spectators, most of the specs will be on the West side of the course, I'll be @ the 3/4 mile mark like always, bring your own beer, DONT bring any glass containers, take your trash out with you, no nails in firewood, fires in containers only, no ground fires, if you're riding a bike, WEAR a helmet, I'm not being a nazi, just trying to help you all avoid a run in with the BLM cops Skip
Skip, thanks for the info! I thought I read on their site that they do practice on Saturday, but I guess I'm mistaken. So I wont bother going Saturday if no one is there.... More input from the guys that have gone before please! That'll clear up any confusion, and save some people a bit of trouble! Thanks!!!!!
They don't practice Saturday, but I think they do most the tech inspections and most people are there by sat. afternoon. If you like to camp I would plan on being there Saturday. Sunday night the lake beds deserted.
Saturday is always "tech day"... As far as I know, the only two day race weekend is in November... You could go out there on Friday night, and camp... But there aren't many people there then. You might meet my good friends Bob and Judy Sights! They rule! Run a 4 banger '27 roadster! But, most people will show up on Sat. morning...
