This weekend I headed up to the desert to which some great folks haul some serious *** across God's concrete. Didn't get NEARLY as many pictures as I would have liked and a good 'ol zoom lense would have helped a ton, but I thought I would share what I took. Had a great time and saw quite a few people I hadn't seen in TOO long. An added bonus was that it only got up to about 93 (better than 103!) with a slight breeze, so it wasn't too uncomfortable. I won't lie though... the A/C sure felt Nice! Docauto... I had **** cell service out there. I will get with you next time for the tour! Hope you had a successful day with the two-wheelers! From the pit area looking down track... Mr. Winfield himself. Gene RULES! I believe this was HAMBer Mike's car Chevy... Great seeing you Mike and Mary!! More in a minute...
Don't be fooled by the looks of the Citron... it was ALLLL business!! That thing was CRAZY! There was some seriously cool bikes out there! There was some serious speed going on with some of these bikes as well! If I remember the numbers right, someone went 196 MPH on a Suzuki 'Busa! Even from mid-track the bike looked like it was FLYING! Some great Triumphs! The coolest Triumph Cub EVER! I have no idea how fast this guy went... but he was SERIOUS! This '41 Indian was AWESOME! Still more.... hold on!
So What was present with their roadster and that Apache push truck was equally as cool! Was thinking that roadster was also a flatty, but maybe someone can confirm. Was a fun day! Great seeing some faces I hadn't seen in a long time... and great meeting a few new people as well! I'll take more pictures next time. Just got side-tracked... See you guys next time!
That Suzuki 'Busa looks great with that chair on it!Nice pictures, great one of the Austin Devon panel van.Thanks. Nick.
Re: the So-What car, I don't know about the engine, but the cl*** designation is Vintage Four Flathead, Blown Street Roadster (on the side of the car). Seems like I recall something on here about the car but don't know where. How'd they do? Fearless
HA! YEAH! DUH!!!! Thanks! I'm sure someone here knows the specs. I only got to see the first run and I think they had some troubles then, but came back with a couple better runs to follow. We were listening via radio at that point and we all missed what the results were. I'll check the site and see if I can find out.
Here's the results for the day... http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/El%20Mirage/ELM%2008/Sept/results/page.htm
Any info on the first photo of the red & White roadster with the cast air scoops mounted to the hood. I've seen a lot of scoops on hot rods and race cars in 50 years, but this is a new one on me.
Actually, I was wondering the same thing. It looks very familiar, but could be a replica of something that I saw a picture of at an old SCTA meet from years ago. I would have asked Mr. Winfield about it, but I didn't think it would be cool to interrupt the interview he was in. I'm sure someone here knows something about it.
Hi ya Scott, thanks for posting all the nice pics. It was good to see you out there. That was Mary's first time at a land speed meet, she rode in the push truck for one of the Bean Bandits' roadster runs. She was really stoked about that. Great day all around. Later, Mike P.S. Thanks for including a picture of my Pie Wagon.
my gosh did you see that 'Triumph Cub!' I had one with short track motor, that little thumper could GO.
I have a weird and sorta' old camera... It's a Sony F717. I like it because the ch***is rotates so I can put the camera right on the ground and see what I'm shooting. Nothing really special though. It takes pretty pictures and that's all I care about. One day I'll get a cool camera... need to finish the Model A before I go investing in a new picture taking device... Again... just had a really good time and I'm looking forward to doing it again! Sorry I missed a few of you out there and it ALSO ****s that Randy (Cruzr) totaled his daily driver out in the middle of nowhere on the way up to El Mirage. Glad you're okay Randy!
Oh yeah, thats what im talking about! Cool shots. We will be out there in a few weeks. Cant wait! Thanks
Hopefully I'll be able to make the next meet. If so we have to kick it! Don't forget your punk rock b***!
Shug has a model A motor with an Eaton blower of the type that comes on many late model cars. Very Hot Rod Home Made.
Great pics, thanks. Something about that 53 Chevy...looks right on. Maybe b/c its a coupe. Those are pretty rare and you dont see a lot of them, any more shots of it?
