Awesome, just awesome. Ya love a guy that drags this thing out of the bushes and goes this route. Too bad it's a sbc. that will be the only boring thing about her. Good Luck !!

  6. The body is home and it is bad in the areas that I thought it would be. Some the guys in the Rattlers car club and DesertDroog are coming over in a little while to help carry the body off the trailer and onto the frame so I can bolt it down and begin to weld in all the bracing before cutting the body apart. Will have some photos late tonight with the car on the frame. Stay tuned.

I was just looking at this again, I love so many things that you did... the little things like the removable trans cross member, make it really neat..

  8. I like this post! I've had a '36 tudor now for about 23 years. Pretty much stock. Painted it and what not when I first got it. Need to give it some TLC and start driving it again when our roadster project is finished. Nice car you got there - would like to see more pics when ya get the body done.

The 36' I bought has the same issues with the cowl, At least your's isn't rusted to the point that the door frame is colapsed and the body's tilted. I sure know how to pick um. I also have a replacement cowl. Just not working on that project just yet. I am looking forward to following your build. Mostly to see what I will be doing in the future. Keep up posted. Thanks.

That front end looks familiar, are those Pinto spindles?

What kind of lowers are you going to run?

I ask, because it looks very much like a popular IMCA modified front end set-up.

I've thought for some time that such a front end would work quite well on these kinds of cars, but I hadn't seen anyone running one until now.

I'd be interested in hearing/seeing how well it all goes together on that frame, and what specific parts you decided to use (and maybe why).

  13. Your yard art looks vaguely familiar,

CoolHand, yeah Pinto/Mustang II spindles. I am going to fabricate new lower arms for air springs, that's why there are no spring pockets.

    Ahhhh, makes perfect sense.

Bitchin start to your project, can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Love the '35/'36 bodies.

I've got a '36 Tudor that I'm working on myself.

Good luck with the rest of it. :D

He answered my questions perfectly. It's not what I thought, but it's made from similar parts, and I totally see what he's got in mind now. Feller knows what he's doin', I'm certain all will be well.

As for the buttons, I'll gladly sell you a pair. Gleefully in fact. :D

Haven't had a lick of work at the day job in four months, so I've fallen back on my entrepreneurial college days to keep me afloat. Gotta keep the bankers at bay.

  18. For the next update we have the car firmly bolted to the frame and floor all squared and ready for the cutting to begin. First the cowl needs to be replaced due to how rusted it is and it will be just easier to do it this way. First I made all bracing for the front end of the car and then build hinge plates that could be slid into the cowl where the hinge goes into and also a matching place on the outside of the cowl where the hinge bolts go so the bracing could weld too that and then I would have a way to bolt on the new cowl assembly and work on squaring the car. The other cowl has had the fire wall pushed back and the center body line on the top matches the pushed back area for the distributor. I really like all the body lines in the stock fire wall and by pushing it back about 2 inches gives me all the clearance that I need and still have the cool stocking looking firewall. Stay tuned for the next installment soon.

    keep the updates comin.
sre those braces to help line up the new cowl?

  20. Yes if you look at the other pics you can see where the bolts go through the braces and into cowl where the doors go. My thought process on this was when the new cowl goes into place I can bolt it down and still keep everything in line. If you are familiar with body shop nowadays they have frame machines called Celete Bench that use bolt on fixtures that make sure the car is squared up before hanging on any sheet metal. I kind of used this idea for the cowl and instead of the frame table the frame itself is the table for the body. Hope this answers your question.

Yes ,I am somewhat familiar with a body shop and how they do some of the straightening and replacing sections. I really do like what you came up with to make a fixture for alignment of the new cowl. I was just making sure I did understand whatyou were up to with your fixtures and section replacement, I like what you are up to.

Most of my questons were answered when I looked at the pics again ( I can see how swiss cheesed the cowl is)

I want to see how the new section fits. I also want to build a36 coupe... sooon.

    Nice work. Really coming along.

  25. Another update for you all,

    After getting the rusted cowl off and new one all trimmed out and measured I found that the car when it rolled down the mountain was bent so badly through the roof that it made cowl way off so all the prefab structure I had made to help line up the doors and cowl means nothing. the decision was made to cut the roof off completely and let the quarter panels go where they wanted too and I have decided to start from the bottom up. After the roof was off I remeasured everything and found the quarters went back too square after the roof was off so now will start with the conversation to a 3 window coupe. For all that have pm'ed me here is list of measurements that I have so far;

5 window door width is = 36 inches
2 door sedan door width is = 42 inches

degrees of the post should be about 85 degrees taking the measurment right under the triangle shape for the door striker.

that give about 6 inches that needs to be taken out of the quarter panels. So more measuring and I cut out the same amount at the "B" pillar and then trimmed the "B" pillar to go back into the floor and inside of the quarter panel. To my surprise there is a body bolt that is almost the same distance from where the "B" pillar was originally so its almost a bolt in deal. Now remember that you will have to keep trimming the quarter panel to get your gaps for the door correct which is where I am at now. hopefully by the next weekend I should have both doors tacked in place with gaps set and "B" pillars where they need to be and then we can go back too the cowl to get it lined up and welded in place so the floor around the trans can be next then on to the roof. See the photos and more to come in the next update.

My 32 coupe was bent up like yours, it was an old stock car. Looks like you are making some progress in making the 3 window conversion also.

How long are the new doors?

    Jeff

  29. The doors are 2 door sedan doors that the tops will chopped and redone to make 3 window door.

No big updates yet. Alot little stuff that makes for boring photos. I have been waiting on the left door to get here from a fellow HAMB'er which should be here sometime next week. I needed to have both doors too help set up the cowl and quarters. I promise some photos soon. Thanks for looking at the post.
