Ok....its been awhile since I posted any pics of my lil' project on here, but I managed to get a few, today. The shop, well...as an instructor at WyoTech, I get frame jigs and welders by the gross and I get to make it all happen as a training opportunity for my students....gotta love that! Anyway, to recap...this is a '50 Chevy pickup, chopped 8", the bed is shortened 35" or so, narrowed..11", as I recall...46 Ford front axle, 48 Ford wishbones, the grille shell started out as a '50 Chevy truck radiator support turned upside down...blah, blah, blah
This is a detail of the front end...the wishbones started out as 48 Ford units...I flipped the "batwing" to drop the elevation of the front of the wishbone, and to allow me to correct the batwing angle for caster.
Not the best view of the rear frame rails, but I am blowing this thing apart next week, and will provide some better pics...
Gotta pimp the WT! Actually, excuse this shamless self promotion, but I wanted to give some perspective on the size of the truck.... I am 6' tall, and the truck is sitting up 18" off the ground, on the frame jig...
Small block...with these headers. The firewall isnt done yet, but the motor was free, and the motor mount is a nod to an "altered look"...and its tall because I had a huge visual void to fill.
Yeah, I know....but I had those left over from another project...a customer asked for 'em, then didnt want em...I mean, this thing is ALL leftovers... ..so yeah, whereas that silly Iron Cross is played out, I prefer to think of them as a nod to Schneider Cams, or King Wilhelm. I am rationalizing, aren't I?
Hay Bill That thing is lookin bad *** brother. You sure made my old axle look cool. Guess im missing alot not working down town anymore.) : Greg
I will give you credit for the cartoonish look. And I mean that in a good way. I like that side profile. It was mentioned before, I also think the firewall needs something............? Maybe round the edges? Looking good though.
I appreciate your comments... And yeah, the firewall...well, we'll see. Trust me, I played around with it a ton, and then got fed up with looking at it. It actually has a bit more geometry than the pics show, but I undertstand your point. I guess I just figgure it'll be hiddne (more or less) by the headers/induction, so just quit looking at it and weld it up, you know? And thanks....if Lance Sorchik or Jimmy Smith dig it, then I got it right.
Its gonna have the big Hurst cheater slicks on the rear, and 6.00x16 Firestone blackwalls on the front... Wheelsmith is going to do the wheels...16" smoothies with '49 Chevy p***enger car caps and ribbed beauty rings... All the suspension components are going to be zinch dichromate ("gold cad")...axle, spindles, wishbones, springs, linkages...and I am considering doing the same to the wheels. I was going to zinc dichromate the entirs frame, but the local guy downsized his tank...so I think its goin black powdercoat...should look good with all the pieces and fasteners gold, huh?
If that had just been described to me, I'd have said "yuck" but you're gonna pull that off and with style! Good show.
Yeah... I try explaining this thing to people, and they are like..."yeah, whatever...that sounds pretty stupid" But I think its gonna work Big enough tires, big enough headers, big enough induction, and a low enough windshield, hell...anything will look cool
That thing looks nuts. You shouldn't reveal too much of your plan...but then I'm sure you've trusted the really important details to the Cubans, right?
I have been to Cuba. They SEEM trustworthy, but then they live under constant armed surveillance....kinda like modern high school kids. Hmmm.
Well, I didn't want to pull a typical "So how does rat taste?" but what I was getting at is that you look like G. Gordon Liddy. I just ***umed you had heard that before.
Nice work Bill. Too bad I didn't get a chance to meet you and see your shop before I left for TX. So are you an instructor now or working at your own shop?
