So I have been upgrading my 56 chevy truck elect and ran into a problem .I have a r francis wiring system and just added a few relays and such .The relays all work fine ,put a new r francis ignition and headlight switch .I put in a differnt gauge panel so i wanted to clean up the wires so added a few wire panels for the light and gauge feed .Now the problem is when the power is on in truck not from switch but the whole truck power the gauge lights just come on and cannot made to go off .They do still dim as normal and the headlights and tail are controlled properly by switch .They were working fine before so something I did is make the headight switch not control the gauge lights .The headight switch is grounded as should and the I ran the gauge light wire from the switch to wire terminal where I connect all the light feeds to .
If that happened under my dash, I would undo everything I recently did, and slowly redo it. Your mistake should be easy to spot.
Did you use this diagram. Sounds like your dash and tail light are going straight to the ignition switched power and not through the head light switch. View attachment 2623729
Yes followed that as my original headlight switch was a ron francis so it had exact same mount .The power goues thru the switch for sure but for some reason its by passing it .Could it be the after market gauge panel is aluminum and not grounding or can it be a weak ground that would cause this ?Its only one tail light that comes on not both .
I would check that the panel itself is grounded well, easy to clip on a jumper lead and see for sure.
