Has anyone built or bought a fan shroud that fits on an aftermarket model a radiator and radiator shell. If so can you post a picture of a made one or where you bought it. Thanks
well i made a shroud for an ot car. i dont have pics and the car is 4 hours away...sorry. but mine was simple. the rad had these mouting brakets on it that came out a 3/4 inchs away from the rad itself. i cut a piece of metal to fit it and bent the top and bottom at 90 degrees, then i used machine screws to mount the shroud to the other brackets the brackets thankfully came out from the rad and then turned 90 so it gave a good place for the macine screws. now the entire shroud, rad, and fan is remvoed with 4 bolts. im so happy. opps. now i see the words model A. that would make sense. looks like you could do something similar using the mounting brakets on the side... but then again i am basing this on a few picks from the internet. so create a small tray and have 4 longer tabs comeing off from it to the mounts points on the rad. does that make sense. if not i can try to explain it more better.
There was lust a lengthy thread about this not long ago. Use the "search forums" tab rather than stirring up the traditionalists (Hatfields) versus the new-agers (McCoys) again...
The early 1928 Model A's came with a fan shoud from the factoey, check with Snyders, they may carry repros. Bob
I have already done a search that's why I posted the question because it didn't really answer my question or give me something to check out but I will look again. I also have looked at the original stuff but the one that I found were plastic and most of them are for mechinal fans not electric. I know that I am not the first one to put an electric fan on a model a radiator............oh and btw the car, by all means is not original.
Hope you didn't take that the wrong way... I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I was more or less just trying to send you a warning message that the words "electric fan" when used together in this forum tend to cause more arguing over what is traditional and what is necessary. Somewhere in the bickering, the original question gets lost and no answers are offered up. Then we end up with 516 posts about whether or not you should even be running an electric fan in a Model A. It just happens that way. PERSONALLY, I say go get you an electric fan from an early Ford Taurus, as they pull a shit ton of air, then build a "traditional looking" shroud to sort of conceal it. Hell, I'm running dual Benz fans on my OT '66, so I'm no one to pass judgement.
Staleg thanks for the link that should help Ragtop I didn't take it the wrong way, all is well, but I do understand the discussion. The car is open motor with a mechanical fan and it's not cooling it. I have even tried to "burp" it. The tan is about 1/2 in or so away from the radiator and the radiator is a new griffin. Oh I guess I should mention that I am using a flex fan which now I think that might be a problem.
