    Great idea!

I collect old fans. I'm still able to find them dirt cheap.

I just GAVE AWAY an old GE 24" industrial fan because it didn't work, I didn't have the time to fix it, and it was heavy as hell (probably 100+ lbs). I should have stripped it for it's cage and made a lamp out of it. :)

Old appliances are great for cannabalizing. Strip out motors, gears, drums, switches, etc and you'll find a re-use for something.

did a quickie search on Grainger...

A standard 16" industrial man-cooling fan ($80.00 list) can get the same 'look' without ripping apart a vintage fan. It might even be worthwhile to see if the fan blades can't be hung on the 12V shaft and hard mount the 12V motor in the shroud - this would eliminate all the plasticky stuff - use a stainless steel bowl to hide the 'modern' 12V motor...

We wanted to have our cake and eat it too, Flower said we need it to run cool but we HAD to keep the original fan. So we did it this way and Flower learned how to set rivets at the same time.

or you could go to you local discount store or hardware store and buy a replacement round bbq grill and bend the outside edge in.

some where they do have a fix for radial tires, my friend got radials for his 55 g***er that look like bias. I think what they do is recap a radial with a bias ply tread. They are expensive but they looks really good

Great idea...not to hi-jack but, has onyone put a small fan between the grill shell and the insert on a 32? I have a mech. fan on a SBC but it does get hot in traffic.

    Again great looking modification.

A flat black shallow electric fan on a flat black radiator is pretty much camouflaged, IMHO. The shinney old fan guard brings attention to it. Run one off the water pump and be real.

    Great idea!
    a couple to add-

A person could remove 80% of the plastic finger guard on the electric fan to make it look less modern. You've got a fancy new metal finger guard, right?

Combine the cut-away plastic finger guard with an electric fan that uses a traditional blade instead of the swept blade shown here, and it would look really old timey.

Cool idea for sure. Keep up the good work.

If I could run a real fan off the water pump I would, but as you can plainly see in this photo, the fan would have to be about 5 inches in diameter and totally flat.

Now, I just threw this together in one day from stuff I had layin around the garage. I didn't kill a nice fan either, the grill came off an old 50's propane heater that didn't work anyway, so don't cry.
But if I had the time and the room, I would probably use a fan like this one. That way you can cover the sides of the plastic fan, and completely enclose it. You would have the cut it down, but if you also act as a shroud.
