    It's a pusher not a puller...

kind of off topic for this forum...

but the stock mechanical pump would work, eh? that's what I would use.

this is cl***ic HAMB. Install the pump wrong, and when it fails blame the pump. If you want the pump up front, run a mechanical pump, full stop, end of sentence.

  10. fine, leave the pump where it is for looks ...and then put an electric pump back by the fuel tank. it will push through the front one.

sounds crazy, but should work fine

you do know that making changes and fixing things are part of hot rodding? not everything has a quick and easy fix...or maybe i'm wrong and there is a smart phone app for this?

as the good guys have already said, but with one caveat,
they also like the fuel above them to keep them wet.

    so mount her down low

Well thats what she said... shave -n- a haircut 10cents

exactly. Any electric pump that does not have "head" on the inlet WILL fail.If you run an electric pump dry, it will also fail. The OP's pump is already on the way out from when he ran the tank dry, that why its noisier now.

it is possible that you may have pulled some ****/rust off of the bottom of the tank when it ran out. very common. the line could be partially plugged, the pump screen could be plugged or the the inline filter [if it has one] or the filter in the carb. check those, then try it.

Not sure what's done to your Cleveland but they have mechanical pumps that can easily support 500hp.

Yes; This is the pump i use:
    http://www.facet-purolator.com/dura-lift-pumps.php

The can push as well as pull (which i guess is called "lift" in fuel delivery terms?)

And the reason i use it is because i'm running one the "newer"/"vortec" SBC blocks, and these blocks are not drilled to accept a mechanical fuel pump and/or fuel pump pushrod. i would have much preferred to run a mechanical pump. (As in interesting side note, the cam that came with the engine still has the lobe to run the fuel pump pushrod, though.....)

And, as with many others here, i was baffled as to why you wouldn't run a mechanical either, but you seemed to have answered that already.

But this elec pump has worked great so far. i have a little over 5000 miles on it.

"not everything has a quick and easy fix..."

... but this one does! As has been said, the wrong pump application was used. The original mechanical fuel pump is cheap, readily available and will work great.
