y Guys and Gals. Has anyone ever added a longer cord to the hoist controls? I have a Northern tool 1 3/4 hp hoist which is located on the second floor of my shop. I would like to be able to hoist things from the ground floor using a control box from the floor and also having a control box on the second floor.Northern tool has not been very helpful as if the box being hard wired or not and what size wire in used in the control switch.Have posted this same information on the Garage Journal site but wanted to post the same here as some on that site my not be a member here. Thanks for all you help and talent. BTW any picture would help a lot !!! LOL
Remove your cord at the crane and take it to an electrical supply house and ask for SO cord in the same gauge as you have. Might not hurt to upgrade to a better switch while you are there.
Mine is the Harbor Freight model that looks identical to the Northern Supply unit. Added 12' to switch cord without any issues
I think what you are asking is to have two control boxes controling one device. This will involve the addition of another set of control contacts. This is a little more involved and I would start by contacting the manufacturer of the hoist or the manufacture of the actual control switch to see if they have a add-on like the garage door opener. Northern Supply is a distributor and more than likely will stay away from questions concerning the alteration of items sold by them. Litigation is a b----
Thanks denis4X4. What gauge wire did you use and where did you buy the wire and any connectors if used? Was it a "Big Box store" or what?
I used 12 gauge wire with butt connectors and shrink tubing. We have an excellent hardware store that on most stuff is cheaper than the big box stores. You need 4 wires. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
