i have a little j-box not a fuse block under the dash with a bunch of lines going in alot of the wires had the insulation missing with alot of wire exposed, but just 2 inches above the wire was fine so i ordered some of the special wire gromets from macs that were supposed to be crimp on but there not they break right in half,so my question is what did everyone else do i tried soldering but its a little tight in there so that didnt go much better.also was there a fuse block in this year originally.thank you

The wiring on these old heaps is confusing at best. I'd suggest you invest in a good wiring diagram and/or a Ford factory manual. You'll never figure it out on your own.

    Good luck! :)

I'm still not sure that I completely understand your question.

I solved the wiring "problem" by tearing it all out and replacing it with a Ron Francis Wire Works rewiring kit. The schematic of a modern wiring kit is nothing like the original Ford, even when it connects the same components. The new kits are much, much simpler than the original Ford schematic...and much easier to understand.

Of course, my car involves an engine swap so much of the original wiring made little sense with the new equipment.

There's a thread here on this Social Group about wiring and wiring kits. Many of us have found that trying to repair the old braided wiring was a losing proposition and decided, as I did, to replace it. There are a number of kits available to do this, some complex and expensive, some more simple and less expensive. As is pointed out in that thread, everybody has his favorite.

Check out the thread. Perhaps this option will appeal to you.

    Good luck! :)

ok here they are . there called posi lock the middle of the inside is cone shaped so the nut acts like a flare fitting . and the wire is pinched inside it when its screwed together . my neighbor told me ha had to get some when he seen me fix his trailer brake wireing with them .

Can you shrink tube the bare wires? When I rewired my 54 I used some of the original wiring that came off certain items, like the steering column wires. Where the insulation was poor or missing, I used two or three layers of shrink tubing to repair it. Easy fix and only requires a heat gun.

Hey 52- is your 'junction box' the same as this one from my '56??

If so, it looks like it uses bullet-style connectors like these:

    But I could be wrong...

Ford used a special, larger sized bullet. These are available from the old Ford parts suppliers as a crimp on. You can make them look like factory by removing the plastic piece where its crimped and add shrink tube over the crimp part (after you have crimped/soldered it on). Tee-Bird Products in PA has them. I'm quite sure I got them from him. If not, I can get you another source.
