Well here's my sad sorrowful tale. I have had my 61 sedan for about a year now and so far it's been a fun ride. However today on arrival to work something was amiss.

It is a completly (to my knowledge) stock 170 the guy I bought it from said it had a new voltage regulator and various asundry parts I have replace suspension parts tune up coil, plugs, plug wires, condeser points all within in the last year. So this morning I get to work and turn off the engine and the idiot generator light comes on.... ok weird i think so i turn the key back on... light goes out???? key off light on.... key on light off no the car was not running.

So I'm in a hurry I leave the key on thinking at least the idiot light won't drain the battery this way and the radio is not hooked into the key and yes the radio is off. 2.5 hrs later I go out on break. I try and start my car... dead battery so I look at wires like i have a flipping clue as to what is what (lol).

Fastforward I jump the car at the end of the day and go on home car runs fine with out battery I unhook both cables and everything does aok no problem hook em up and off to the house. I get home and .. nada battery dead so I get another fully charged battery and start car up no prob.... what the heck is that sound I hear a humming when I shut off car and battery is hooked up.... searching searching.... well the generator was trying to turn over... wierd wierd... now I really haven't a clue as to what is causing this any thoughts I checked the regulator no point sticking and the horn relay got the ole tap and pray... now everything seems fine the generator does try and turn over but I have a fear that the problem didn't magically fix itself so any thoughts suggestions...

And I will repeat the car has ran fine up until today I don't get it Voltage regulator? or something crapped out? I mean seriously no problems and then boom the whole car becomes possesed What makes a generator try and turn with the KEY OFF and only the battery hooked up?

HELP lol thanks for reading ..

Voltage reg. done took a shit. The cutout contacts stuck and that feeds battery power back into the gen. when it stops charging
