hey all, i have a 1964 impala i bought a few months ago. as soon as i get the tranny back from the rebuild shop it will be ready to drive, except for one thing. when i hit my brakes, the left front parking light/blinker comes on too. also the left blinker indicator on the dash comes on also when i hit the brakes. all the lights work except for this problem. any ideas or suggestions greatly appriciated. thanks, wolfie104
Sounds like the wiring for the left turn signal and the indicator light on the dash are hooked to the taillight circut. It and the right front singnal need to be isolated from the rear circuts. When you use the bakes and a rear signal only one brake light works. In your case the lefts is hooked to the left brake light circut causing it to light when you put on the brakes. good luck, Don
Does your left rear stoplight work when you step on the brakes? It sounds like someone has switched the front and rear wires on the left side. If your stoplight doesn't work, find the stoplight wire, and switch it with the front wire. If your stoplight works too, then someone has apparently tapped the front turnsignal off the stoplight wire. Or, you could have a short in the switch. Mutt
What Mutt said .... AND ... I just got a 63 Impala with LOTS of headlight/parking light/turn signal/brake light problems ... ALL were BAD GROUNDS !!! Taillight sockets were the biggest culprits ..... Jersey Skip
I had the same kind of problem. when i would push the brake the head lights would come on. mine was caused by a monkey mechanic putting a single element bulb into a twin element socket.
