I had a faulty coil in an HEI that caused similar problems....

Yep very lucky. I would change all the fuel hose with the fuel injection rated stuff pretty soon.

word of warning on the modules make sure you have a resistance source ( like plugs on the wires ) if you test it out of the car as if there isn't a circuit it can kill the amplifier module ,

glad you found your culprit , them coils do loose there umph as they get older, if they are not OEM they go real quick except of the " racing ones " often the resin cooks between the wires and they short . at least yours was a easy problem to solve, I had one that sat for a week with us scratching our heads , we replaced the cap , coil , and rotor ,with customer supplied parts , only to have it start run a few minutes then stop dead . and wouldn't refire , all the electronics was good ( module , coil , pickup) , it was the cheap rotor burned thru under it and was shorting out on the distributor shaft , and the replacement rotor was also bad ( cheap no name parts ) wasn't till I put a used worn 75,000 mile Gm rotor in it as hunch it fired up . we looked at the bottom of the new rotor and you could barely see the burn thru . it was a pinhole . ever since then its been nothing but AC Delco , Acell ,MSd or Standard Ign. for parts for them .

When I got the car back from Rogers wife a couple of years ago I replaced all the rubber fuel lines under the hood, but that small piece between the gas tank and the hard line was out of sight out of mind. HRP

I am known as a "Cheby guy" and I don't run the HEI. Does that tell you anything? :D

I know that it has ben a PITA but I got to laugh, there is an old saying, that all electrical problems are fuel related and all fuel problems are electrical. you proved it. ;)

Happy for a couple of reason here, one is that you are back on the road and the other is that you are still on the road. car fires are nasty and a bad fuel line can cause them faster then a rat running over the roof with a piece of raw liver in its mouth. :D

I find the cheapo petronics 1 is the longest lasting. 14 years and counting on one, never skips a beat. Had trouble with flame thrower 2 and switched the cheapo. It's all good.

Happy to report I drove the car about 20 miles today and ran like a champ and no hard cold starting problem this morning.

Our weekly hot dogs & hot rods only had 2 hot rods show up,several others showed up in family cars. HRP hd&hr.jpg
