    You can install a Ford Duraspark ignition and still use the points style distributor cap for the vintage look and have better parts availability,I have that ignition on my 55 sunliner and in about 35,000 miles only had to change a pick up coil that was probably made over seas.

    Things to consider when switching to aftermarket electronic systems...

    Everyone who does it, does it on a pre-75-ish vehicle, right?

    I'd take a stab and say the majority who do it, are like us on these boards, and those vehicles are not daily drivers who see 20K miles a year.

    I seriously doubt that Petronix/etc, put the R and D time and dollars to come up with the same type of system that the Big 3 did...the Big 3 was giving 3 years/50Kmiles warranties...some longer, back then.

    So, as much as a GM HEI dizzy looks bad in a '36 Ford w/SBC, it'll be as reliable as an '81 Camaro was, and any parts store across the country will have parts to fix it.

    Now the aftermarket guys took advantage of technology and came up with things that work...do you really think they put the time and money into their product, that the Big 3 sourced?

    So you can't compare 680 million factory cars to what...a million? aftermarket units? That probably don't see nearly a 10th of the miles driven that a '84-Big 3 vehicle is/was driven, over the same period of time.

    Nope.

    Electroinc ignition was present in 1948 (Delco-Remy), in testing, installed in 1955 (Lucas) in some production vehicles, and in even more production vehicles by 1963 (Delco-Remy), by both Chevrolet and Pontiac.

    There, I cleared that up for you.
