I do the old antique childs doll prams and wheels in a tub this way.
Pram wheels with rust and paint take about 24hrs, im only running a 2 amp charger.
The paint falls off after coming out of the bath and a wire brush is all thats required.
I use a wire wheel to polish the metal prior to paint. looks store bought with acrylic paint.
To show your friends what this will do, find an old extremely rusty spanner / wrench thats been laying in mud etc. just dip clean 1/2 the spanner in the solution and then the 1/2 that is cleaned... polish on a wire wheel and hang on the wall. people find it hard to believe unless you show them.

Exhaust manifolds come out shiny grey!
cast iron and forgings are especially good to treat this way.

dadseh, how clean do you get your manifolds before you dip them. I expect degrease, but do you try to get any carbon buildup out, or just dip them?

  3. I have done this for a while on small parts it works great.
PS no alloys or brass as it will be eaten away.

just dip them, obviously the part must 'see' the anode to get the best result so I turn them around after 24 hrs.
The parts will not rust if wire brushed and lightly oiled .

So what amperage is used on the charger and what time frame?
I suppose it really doesn't matter as I saw that someone wrote that the process is self halting, was just curious.
I have some parts in at 10 amps now.
I was also wondering how long the solution and anodes(re=bar) are good for.
