  1. It will if you run a 32-39 gen and lop the front pulley off.

On bulls A tudor build which i posted a pic of we ran a stock 46 ford 59ab with the stock fan set up, theres no way you could ever get that to clear a stock A firewall, i mounted the motor 1/2 inch away from the radiator and had to recess the firewall about 2-3 inches, If a guy ran a 32-39 gen on the 59-ab i would think it would be doable, i havent done it that way so i cant say for sure but

  3. it's for sure doable, Mine is set up that way, unless I haven't figured what's going to screw me....

  4. Of course you know that you need to put the banger in a FED, and tow it behind the coupe!

u running the 32-39 generator? that should work.

im just saying the stock fan set up on a 46-8 ford that has the fan pully mounted on a idler will not work. heres a pic of the set up on bulls sedan, if you made this set up work i dont now what i did! someone must have shortened this car then!

I'm actually hoping that I can get a 35-36 low profile fan to squeeze in there.

No huge updates as I am waiting on the trans crossmember and a steering box before I start tearing into the frame, so did some house cleaning on the front end.

Bob Wilson of Wilson Welding made up some 1939 Lincoln brakes with the 1932 bolt pattern and spindle size. Broke those down last night and painted them up nice and shiney!

Also using an Okie Joe stretch dropped 33-34 axle. Fresh paint!

Also cut out some more cancer. Wow there was a lot of crud trapped behind that panel. I can see why it soaks up the moisture like a sponge and rusts it out from the inside.

Trimmed the patch panel to fit and built up the bottom reenforcement, but didn't get a picture of that. It was late and I was starving and so it was time to quit for the evening.

Just ordered a 2 bolt crab distributor, adapter plate and cam button from Bubba's Ignition to convert the engine from the 3 bolt divers bell that is already on it. The distributor I ordered has points. I thought about going with pertronix, but I'm running a 12V generator and he said that with the spikes that the generator goes through, points would be the better way to go.

This is the distributor that is on it now.. Not sure if the button is necessary or if just the spacer will work, but I ordered it anyway so that there wouldn't be an issue

All very very exciting progress Elrod!! I remember seeing your coupe buzzing around Congress St. a couple years ago and saying "that thing sounds pissed!". Now It's really gonna be ripping it up!

    Sure with a 32-39 gen/fan it`s easy.
But no way with a 59AB fan setup.

  14. sorry, should have been more clear in my original post....You can make a 59ab fit with minor mods....

BTW Elrod is that a supercharger snout I see?

    Thats what I'm thinkin too....

  19. Have you thought of using a CDI box and just use the points to trigger it? I've done that and it works very well, you can even hide it inside if you don't want to let people know it's there.

Thought I would take a little time to post some updates before heading out to work on it some more.

Had some much needed parts show up from 26Lakes! Big thanks to you David!

Immediately tore into the trans crossmember to get it fitting. It obviously came out of a much thicker frame that was also wider than a Model A frame, so had to trim the sides off, and bring the bottom up so that it will flow better.

Got it somewhat roughed in and the transmission supported on the back half of it. If you notice at the bottom of the image, the 32 wishbones are going to almost line up with the bottom of this crossmember. So, like a 32 K member, the plan is to install a wishbone ball at the bottom of it to locate the back end of the wishbones.

Next item up for manipulation are the front motor mounts. I want everything on this car to be vintage, or to not look out of place, so while I've used square tubing to make motor mounts in the past, I wanted something more factory looking. A quick search on the HAMB mentioned that someone had cut down a front crossmember to use as the motor mounts. So out came the plasma cutter!

Victim was the front crossmember from the 1938 Argentina convertible truck that Anderson is working on. Lopped off the frame rails...

Did a little trimming and sandblasting on the ends...

And here is the final result. I think the rounded edges flow with the rest of the frame's round edges and looks like something Ford would have made. WAIT! It is something Ford made. :D

Another upgrade that the coupe will be getting is a set of 26 tooth Lincoln Zephyr gears. This was a swap meet find a couple years ago. I bought an entire box of transmission parts mostly because there were a few sets of new unused bearings in the box, but when I got home and counted the teeth, I found out it was Lincoln.

Thanks to Mac Van Pelt for making assembly easy...

Can´t wait to see more.Keep us updated, your coupe rocks !
...makes me wanna buy a model A coupe right now !:)

  26. Looking great. Just curious, did you level the engine to earth with the f1 crossmember? or just installing the crossmember to meet with the top of the frame rail?

I'm installing the crossmember just below the frame rails, like the front crossmember is installed. With the biscuits on the front feet, there is an ever so slight tilt down on the tail shaft. I haven't measured the degree of the angle.

    looks good.

youll have to relocate your pedal assembly inwards, basically what was the upper right bolt for the pedal assembly was turned in the upper left bolt for the pedal assembly if that makes sense, we had to massage the member just a little for master cylinder clearance. i cant remember what clutch croshaft i used but the end suport where the two bronze bushing go basically bolted to the frame.

I am really curious how you are going to attach the 32 wishbone ball to the F-1 crossmember. I put the same crossmember in my 31 roadster and decided to do the split a bones but would rather have an intact wishbone instead.

The only thing I did different from yours was that I left enough metal on the ends to bend ears on the crossmember so i could bolt it in.
