When I got there last year my camera took a dump after a couple shots.
I had stopped by to see Glenn (Green front engine Roo car) and he offered his camera to take some. Reason I say that is here are some shots that I took, and an apology for some of the mucked up ones. New to me camera and she was nice.

Hope for a great show. I haven't even been to track yet this year..

  6. What I'd like to know is who's deeming this "The Largest ***embly of G***ers"?

I've been to the NHRA Reunions and seen how many are there and there are 100's. I've also been to Columbus and Thompson and know how many are there. So how can this be "The Largest"? Or is this just a play on words? I know that if we go to a store for an advertised sale item and we find out that it is at regular price, we get pissed off and start yelling false advertisment. I heard last year there was somewhere around a 203 car count which included the Modified Gas cars ('66-'72). Well the Modified Gas cars made up the largest percentage of the field (including cars that were newer than '72) and ironically get the least respect. So how is this "the Largest"?

If my info is wrong please feel free to correct me.

Just be certain you get 2 days out of it if you're paying for 2.

I suggest you contact the person running the event empiredragway@aol.com <!--msnavigation-->

Last year we only got one day because of a hurricane that came up the east coast, but were refunded for the day that the event was shortened.

Just a note, my FED runs in the Mod Gas cl*** because the rules for g***ers are very strick in what they allow in that cl*** (as does all the oghter FEDs, so the Mod Gas cl*** is not just Modified Gas cars ('66-'72).

  10. No "hurricane" just 15-30 mph winds that subsided by 12:30 pm. The race was called at 6:00 am prior to the track owner being there. By 9:00 am most of the "g***ers" left! Even the track owner would have completed the event due to the winds subsiding.

In June, there were 15-30 mph winds at Thompson and the race was held but cut from 1/4 to 1/8 mile which is what the Gold Cup runs anyway. The only reason Thompson did not run on Sunday was due to very heavy rain.

My last comment on this subject

I really enjoyed this event. I have nothing but good things to say about it, as do many others.

Not sure why you are upset.

Hurricane Irene August 29 came up the east coast and cause a lot of damage.

A call was made by whoever and moneys were refunded, can not ask for more that that.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTji4qwE4lg hurricane Irene.

I say no more, except that I will be there having a good time, come on out.

  12. Okay, that video clearly showed the most outer edge cutting right threw Rochester, NY which is what 30+ miles away? Yes the 15-30 mph winds were related to the hurricane but the hurricane did not come near the track and the eye was at least 250-300 miles away. I will agree that the track owner did refund the money for the 2nd day but with the event being canceled was beyond his control, what else could he do?

But this really isn't about the weather. My question is about whether this is suppose to be the largest ***embly of g***ers or is this a slip of the tounge? Just how many "G***ers" are expected?

Inquirring minds want to know what to expect.

Just to make it clear, the cross winds were clocked at 40 mph at the track. The decision was made for the safety of the drivers and that day's admission fee was refunded by the track owner and a doughnut to boot. When was the last time you seen a track owner step up like that ?
I'll be there tomorrow and will be looking forward to the Gold Cup and seeing "ALL" the racers !

Five of us are towing from Peterborough Ontario for the second year. Last year was a great event even though "Irene" prevented us from running on Sunday. The track owner called all racers and pit crew to the tower for refunds, donuts, coffee, and an appologetic "thanks for coming". For that at***ude alone, I'll make this a must attend annual event.

Update on this weekend’s racing / testing at the g***er series race yesterday

Had a flat tire on the way to the track, blow a hole in the side of a tire.

Put the shade canopy up and the wind promptly blow it back down and broke a leg<O:p (ont the tent)

First run was a test and to warm everything up, red lite (only one for the evening!), a step in the right direction. No changes were made (timing at 28, jets at 200, high air bleed at .023), was slow at 8.72 in the quarter with the air at 2383 ( this was the only run for the evening that we got ¼ mile times as this was a g***er even and that is 1/8 mile<O:p

Second run, we put the timing up to 30 degrees, no other changes, air was better at 2262, it started hard, had a slightly better ET, slightly higher EGTs. 1/8 mile was 5.519. Still no heat in the plugs<O:p

Third run, we put the stock high air bleeds (.025) back in (has the effect of going down four steps in main jets), timing still at 30 degrees (started hard), air was a little worse at 2378, EGTs were slightly higher, no heat in the plugs, and it ran slower at 5.543. Still no heat in the plugs<O:p

Fourth run, ran the same setup. Had a very hard time getting it to start in the staging lanes, cranked over but would not fire, this may have been my problem as the starter had complained of fuel coming out of the overflow and I dropped the level of fuel in the tank. The pickup is quite a ways of the bottom off the tank. Air was better at 2257, ET was 5.527. Still no heat in the plugs<O:p

Fifth run of the evening was the first run of eliminations, we took the timing back to 28 degrees, I had an Ok light for me .596 and would have won except I broke out by .020. Air was better at 2210 and the ET was better. Still no heat in the plugs<O:p

Ok , so we ran two test runs and to a big swing at it. <O:p

Sixth run, took all the jets down to 184, timing back to 28, I was early on my shift to second by 500 RPM. We compared 60 foot RPM, on the data logger and looked to be going in the right direction. EGTs were still higher in the pipes, but still no heat in the plugs. Air was better at 2050 ET was slower because of the shift to second at 5.575<O:p

Seventh and last run, went leaner still. Went to 180 jets, except one of the jets had bad threads and could not get it to start, so used a 184 in that position. Air is now getting really nice at 1965, best air I have seen. Still no heat in the plugs, pipe EGTs are no frightening at 1390s, but STILL NO HEAT IN THE PLUGS. ET was better at 5.523, ¼ mile was 8.686<O:p

Still the thinking is to go leaner.<O:p

Club racing this Wednesday August 15, if the weather is go will try it<O:p

G***er Gold Cup is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday August 17,18,19
