It was that car "painted" ! You have to know, Tommy would have been one of the first to receive the latest, new products available back then.
Holy ****, so the Oct '62 date is right. I figured it had to be an error. Great thread by the way, see what you started TFF?
Just was rereading the posts. So if I understand you correct if the fins do not matter I could just modify my bird to "shower" style and it would be the same? I can do that. By the way George thank you for everything you have helped me with since I joined this site.
Thank you I love this stuff ! So port nozzles and k barrel valve in 64 ? Fuel pump hilborn or was enderle making them too in 64?
DRE is saying no, the early hat is shaped differently around the ****erflies, and he knows WAY more about this stuff than I do. I dont think the port nozzles appeared until well after '64/65, but maybe Marty or DRE can comment on this. Both of them know more than I do on this stuff, glad to have helped out in whatever way I can. Great that you got that intake! I would follow up on OJ's comment about contacting Enderle, that may be a really good lead, even if they dont have any early hats, once you find one, they can probably be a big help getting it sorted out for alcohol.
Yes I thought the early ones had a lip around the leading edge. Ok so I need that style hat I guess the next question would be the barrel valve type. I have a square and a couple K's. Next would be fuel pump and fuel lines(what type..what did the use for fittings ? ) Thanks !
I looked at some Don Gay photos, looks like I got that wrong, '65/'66 photos show a 4 hole hilborn hat, the following car had an Enderle, but it had the 8 nozzles in the base, not a showerhead.
John Knox, S***y Racing Engines, Weare, NH might be a good source for this sort ot thing. I know he has built tractor pulling engines for many years and I saw his restoration of his wife's flopper, the Country Girl, at the Hot Rod Reunion. He supplied parts for the Whipple and Mr. Ed funny car restoration also.
I have not spoke to Jim in about 5 years. Is he still alive and kickin ? Hope so. I planned on calling them when I had some sort a pile of parts together that I was going to use.
The earlier style hat that I had, I got from a local "river rat", so you also might frequent some of the boat racing sites in your hunt. @Marty Strode Slightly OT, but relevant, what year did the three inch wide (1/2" pitch) drive systems start being used?
Jim has purpose and motivation that I can feel over the phone, nothing is impossible for that guy - he'll outlive us all. He just fixed me up with a fresh batch of 3psi poppets that I use for regulators on carb'd motors. How about some pics of what you're putting together?
This is the stuff I would like to know. Thank you. Yes I am a "river rat" ..I raced Dragboats for years which for me got its start from to many tickets and no drivers license ! At the time lakes had no speed limits and that meant no tickets ! Anyway that is part of the deal I had a brain fart on ....1/2 pitch 3 inch or ?
Between acquiring the manifold I needed , the NHRA Gator Nationals on tv and this thread I am having a great day ! I would love to start a build thread but was hesitant because it is towards the end of HAMBs cut off and if there would be enough interest. I will put together some pics to post. Thanks to all that have posted.
This is the manifold I purchased. The plan is to eliminate the old pop offs and retro fitting it with a burst panel and o-ringing it. Port nozzles are going to be difficult if used but it can be done..
Burst panel? What happened to the 1964 look? Spring pops worked fine for years, at least on lower boost/hp engines. I'm sure you have your reasons though.
Hidden burst panel.. If possible. I have dealt with old style pop offs. No fun. I may or may not if posted this but I want to be able to use some modern stuff without being to period incorrect. Those pop offs are not the easiest to access when....not if they pop !
Oh ...once in a while this motor will leaned on if you know what I mean They always run the best before the blow!!! Lol !
Ok square it is. I thought so but I have never done anything like this before I can make a square work with alky but if the k was availble I would prefer it. This info is invaluable to me.
Thank you George. It was my grandfathers. He bought it new. Unrestored. 68 GT 302 4 speed. New windshield tires and brakes plus I freshed the motor. Rings bearings valve job etc. nothing else.
Factory 4V? if it is, thats probably pretty damned rare with the 4 speed. I had a gf a long time ago that had a '68 Mustang GTA notchback, factory 302 4v and auto.
