hey guys, have any of you got a link to an adapter to run a sbc to a 53 ford three speed? and i guess while im on that note is 300 hp going to tear that trani into metal flake soup? thanx tim
why dont i use a chevy transmission? just figured if the old 3 speed would hold up why **** with it and have to cut up my floor. but if its going to grenade by driving like im going some were screw it
My opinion, what's easier, replacing a transmission or cutting a hole in the floorboard. Almost guaranteed that the ****** will go, and the only question is, Where will it go? Usually 100 miles from home.
Here's what you're lookin for... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/paging.yes/dept_id.444/display_id.810/qx/Product.htm but as mentioned, those ******s are very weak. I doubt you'll have to cut your floor if you change the trans. Esp if you keep it stick.
hmm good point seymor, im a total dunce when it comes to manual trani's though. if i went with a 60s 4 gear is it straight linkage like the one i have now for the clutch or would i have to plumb im a master/slave ? a 4 speed sounds preety apealing tim
your linkage is going to have to be altered to work with a chevy bell/throwout. you can make it work. a saginaw 4 speed would be so much better than a wide ratio 3.
Yeah, you can make it work, it's pretty straight foward. I wouldn't use a hydro slave unless I had to... just one more thing that can wear out/go wrong etc. Same with the 4 spd. a 3 spd Saginaw can take a pretty good bashing. The 4spd doesn't have much advantage over the 3 spd since it's probably not overdriven. Unless, you're racing the car and the 4spd gears are advantageous to your torque band... stick with 3 spds.
