Engine assembly tips:Dry or Wet?????

    I attend the Drag Expo In Chicago every year . A couple of years ago I was Talking to the man that had a seminar . He worked for Mahle. He said they cleans the bores spray wd 40 on the piston and cyl.walls and assemble it . He claims the excess oil leaves a residue when it starts burning off.

    I used to use a good dish soap and a cylinder brush. Now I pretty much use brakekleen and a good lint free rag.

    No, I never heard of it till now. A little variation on the Bon Ami treatment, I guess.

    That’s how my dad taught me many years ago. We cleaned the cylinders with gasoline, I know that’s not protocol now, then we used a brush and soapy water. Kinda freaked me out! But he was a clean freak when it came to assembling an engine. I guess it came from his aircraft mechanic background.
    Just wondered if anyone else did that.... or anything different.
