engine build

  1. If i was to want to build an engine, what type would be the cheapest to build. iam not neccesarly looking for a hell of alot of horespower but a good amount, i just want a good sized engine that is good lookin and has a descent amount of power, i thought about doin a flathead but that was gonna cost to much. will

    Just about any OHV engine from the '50s & up. SBCs are everywhere, but pretty well overdone in the rodding community. A SBF, like a 302, is just as cheap.

    The one thing that might make a difference is what the motor will be going in.

    Yep, what '46 Stude said.

    Chevy small blocks 283-350 CID will be
    the least inexpensive to build.
    You will best off just buying a good
    running car, and take the engine, trans and
    what ever else you can use out of it.
    That IS the CHEAPEST way to supply a large
    amount of parts for a HotRod project.
