ok ever one i'm 15yrs old and building a 29 hiboy and i want a vintage look so i'm going with a 4 banger and drum brakes i want to take a vote for what engine most people recomend i want it to be a manual trans. and it cant be a model a engine there not that fast for i might take it out to race . !!!!

Fiat and Alfa twin cammers are fairly cheap but not pleantiful everywhere. Ford 2.3 engines are dirt cheap with a bunch of high pref stuff available. They have been around so long, one can find a bunch of stuff for the things at swap meets. Use a fox body 5 speed behind one. Use the stock carb intake with a Holley or 60s era ford carb, biuld it to 9:1 sqeeze or better with a good street cam and header and the thing will make good power. That kind of combo will go over 150 HP with a good parts selection. The 2.5 S10 engine with 5 speed is certainly a good alternative. It's nowhere near as cheap to make power out of, though. If you don't mind ferrin' power, look at Toyota 22r and 5 speed or dual plug Nissan engine out of those little Asian trucks.
