I've been building my T for a few months now, and a buddy will be building the motor this Saturday, This obviously leads into debate about the color of the engine, which I thought would make a fun opinion poll, Just A Big Model T by BigJoeArt posted Feb 7, 2023 at 11:05 AM the body of the car will be the same color as the frame. here's a preview of the motor as it is currently. Just A Big Model T by BigJoeArt posted Feb 1, 2023 at 9:51 PM and a second question, Do you prefer to paint your motors in pieces, then assemble, or assemble, then paint?
Either pick a theme- like matching the frame, fire wall and interior or paint it oem colours. Most of us wouldn’t have any gold left after rebuilding the hemi.
I’m fortunate to have made a deal with my good friend @Jeff Norwell on the engine and I can do all the machine work/ building myself
If you like the looks of a detailed engine with no paint on the edges of the gaskets... and if you like the knowledge that all surfaces (even hidden) are protected... paint all the parts before assembly. If you like the factory look with paint on everything... including all the gaskets and bolts... and you don't care about the hidden parts... paint after assembly. If you want both... do both. Paint before and after assembly.
White and gold are great options. With your over all plan I lean towards white. given the chance I’d paint it all in pieces. To me it looks crisper
Ricky pops picture is perfect for that style. Before we talk of engine color. What color are you planning for the frame and body?
as stated in my original post, the body will be the same light purple that the frame is currently. Just A Big Model T by BigJoeArt posted Jan 23, 2023 at 7:44 AM added gold as an option*
Any color you want as long as its black. On a side note, when I was a mechanic at a dairy in the mid 70's the head mechanic painted every engine blue. Period. We referred to it as "dairy blue". But when the SBC in the tow truck took a dump the machinist who built the replacement engine refused to paint a Chevy engine blue. Painted it orange before it left the shop because he knew my boss would have painted it "dairy blue" if it wasn't painted already. Don't know if he added the can of paint to the bill but I do know it ran great even though it wasn't "dairy blue",
I once painted a 396 Chevy engine white including the cast iron intake. When I had a fuel leak at the carb, I had pink stains all over it. Bad idea...
Clean? who cleans their hot rod? I think they are only clean once, right when you finish them. then they get well worn in. like an old pair of blue jeans.
I see the frame is flat purple, will the body be flat as well? If so I vote a metal flake, purple, base/clear motor.
the frame has a matte clear on it, I plan on painting the car the same, maybe one day it will be shiny.
White is classy but if maintenance is an issue... You almost have it Gold so make it that Blue ( or Purple as you say ) and Gold is a time honored combo.
