you can cut and weld an oil pan, but you will also need to move the oil pump pickup too

  5. I don't know about the engine number, but here's what I saw on rockauto.com for a 1979 Toyota Celica 2.6 L straight-six. Does that look right? That closeout one is inexpensive.

    Per Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Celica):

In 1978 Toyota began production of the Mark I Toyota Supra in Japan, as the Toyota Celica **. The year it debuted in the United States and Japan was in 1979. The U.S. Mark I (ch***is code MA46) was originally equipped with a 110 hp (82 kW) 2.6 L (2563 cc) 12-valve SOHC inline-6 engine [>>(4M-E<<)]. Simultaneously in 1979, the Japanese Mark I (ch***is code MA45) was offered with a 110 hp (82 kW) 2.0 L 12-valve SOHC inline-6 engine (M-EU).

FWIW, I've done the 250" small-block 6-cyl in a Falcon with no problems. In fact, saw another nice one at last month First Friday in Gadsden, AL.

    How about something European?

Older Mercedes inline six cylinders are front sump. Should be easy to find a 230/250/280 engine in France.

Also, most early BMW inlines are front sump. A BMW six would be a nice fast engine for a lightweight Falcon. Use the Getrag 5 speed.
