I scored this 66 283 from a local high school that is liquidating a bunch of old "junk" from the auto shop back room. It doesn't look like it has ever been in a car or ever taken apart. It's clean as new inside. Even came with the stand. The trans under the bench that I thought was a TH350 turned out to be a 700R4 upon closer inspection. So, I'll rebuild one of the TH400 cores that I have and use it instead. Why the 400 instead of the 700? Because I have a convertor, rebuild kit, and shift kit for the 400 already.
I often wonder what became of the MINT 283 on a stand at my highschool. I remember firing it a couple times after we'd adjusted the points. That was in the early 90's we where learning to adjust points. What do they teach in shop class these days? Good score on the mill...
Hey Don, I'll loan you the 2x2 (dual 97 Strombergs) manifold if you want it. It ran GREAT on the stock 283 I had... It's complete ready to run... I'd just like to have it back when yer done with it though, them 97's and Offy adaptors aint cheap. Sam.
Don, That engine in your '32 roadster screams for a stick shift transmission. A 3spd would be nice or how about a Borg Warner 4spd? T400,s came out in 64/65 don't let non- traditional parts invade that sweet old survivor. While you're at it pick up a tri-power of a Corvette 2X4 setup. Sam's 2X2 would also be cool.
It'll get a std. trans eventually but right now I'm trying to get it rolling quick and dirty with what I have laying around and what I can scrounge cheap. Sam, I might take you up on the loan of the intake & carbs. I call you some time before the Antique Nats.
