1952-59 Ford Engine I.D.

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by 1stGrumpy, Jul 25, 2010.

  1. I have a '54 Cusomline that I bought around the first of the year. The sellers claim it has a 272/292 ( can't remember which ) but the guy that they bought it from said it was a 239. So my question is... can you tell which it is without tearing it down? This thing runs great so I don't want to disturb it. Thanks....

If the engine hasn't been changed it should be a 239.

The place to look for the engine code is just above the starter on the block it should have the code: EBU in it,if the code on the intake manifold is EBU-6425 it is a 239 intake manifold, however I had a 292 that someone put the 239 intake on.Let us know what that first code is and we can ID it.

A block ID will tell you what block it is . The intake will also tell you if it's a 239 or not . It should be a 239 unless the engine was change . The 272 didn't come out till 1955 .
I would check the intake first since that is the easiest .
