hey i was wondering if anyone might have any sugesstions. i have a 35 ford coupe that im putting a built up sbc 350 with muncie m21 transmission. the engine mounts that im using are that post style engine mounts that use to be in the old bel air with the brackets that mount to the front. of the motor. the problem is is that the trans mission is about 4 inches off from where it needs to be to be bolted to the frame. is there any brackets for the engine mounts that sit back a little further?
The engine mounts (assuming I understand correctly) that you are using were designed to be used in conjunction with a bellhousing frame mount for the transmission not a rear tail shaft support. One possible solution would be side mounts for the engine and then the tailshaft support. Chassis Engineering would be one place I'd look for either parts or at least determine how you could copy their design. I've used stock SBC sidemounts and made my own frame mounts and******* support. http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/1935-1940-ford-car-pickup/
Front mount on engine needs bellhousing mounts or you will have problems with the front pump and seal. You will be better served using the side mounts on the engine with a rear mount on the transmission. I have seen too many transmissions puke out the front pump seal doing what you are doing.
if you are trying to put a SBC in a 35-36 Ford without cutting the firewall and the radiator in the stock location you have very little leeway on where to put the motor i suggest you use side mounts on the motor.....Chassis Engineering and Pete & Jakes has them
Here is the front of the motor with the motor mounts and the transmission attached my dad had originally built the car in the 70's with the motor and******* and everything lined up but he sold it and i bought it back but the guy had torn everything apart. I wasnt sure if there was a different front mount that sat back a little farther or if i should just do a new mount setup all together. The way it was mocked up was the two front mounts and a mount for the transmission.
As suggested purchased the CE or P&J mounts and your worries are over. I made my own (copied P&J). I used 3/16" CRS and cut them with a die grinder. They work just fine and bolt in place. Here is the finished product on a 40 sedan delivery I built.
The problem with the early styled front mounts is that there is no torque control on the engine . These mounts were designed to just hold up the front of the engine and the original bell housing mounts controlled the torque as well as held up the rear of the engine. The engine will torque over badly like having a broken engine mount.
