got d90e-6015 on my block in the 54 customline trying to find out what year and size i have any help appreciated.
D90E? It's a '79 casting, probably a 302 or 351W, not exactly sure which. Someone else can maybe take it a bit closer. Ron
Wanna hear something weird? I was talking with my buddy who lives out of state this week and he told me that he found some strange engine production info for the '53 Ford (my ride). Apparently, in '53 ('52) Ford was playing around with a couple different ideas before switching over to the Y block. One of those ideas was having 2 water pumps. My buddy said a limited # of flatties had these. Checked this week and wouldn't you know it, I have two water pumps. This would explain why I was able to drive her home 5 hours on the hottest day of the summer 2 years ago without the temp guage needle moving the slightest. Anyone know anything about this? Is he pulling my leg and all of the '53's have 2 water pumps? Sorry to hijack '52 Plymouth, I just thought the question might fit here. Thanks
Dude, I'm not a flathead guy but it is my understanding that ALL Ford Flathead V-8's have two water pumps... from '32 to '54. Next time you see your "Buddy" slap him along side the head. In fact slap him on both sides, one for each water pump.
Flatheads have always had two water pumps and the front motor mounts bolt to them, you are very lucky as overheating is a common flathead problem and most of the time the dual water pumps are the cause as the coolant moves too fast thru the system.Us 'Ol Farts used to restrict the flow by washers in place of the thermostats and removing every other impeller on the pumps.
I'll bet he was being a wise-*** know-it-all hot rod veteran. Probably wanted me to make an *** outta myself on the HAMB (I'm new to the game)- mission accomplished. Jeff, I was aware of the flathead's rep for overheating. When I bought it, the owner told me that he never had a problem with it. I had my eye glued to the needle the whole way home, I was sure I was gonna overheat. Thanks for going easy on me fellas
C'mon, you guys. We could'a had Scott going for quite a while on this one! Where's your sense of humor? I think you've mentioned this guy to me before, Scott. Gotta hand it to him... Good show!
first letter is decade, second number year in that decade, third letter type of vehicle, and fourth letter is type of part,(e = engine) hope this helps. cheers
Jeff, Again I'm not a Flat Head Guy but I believe not all "the front motor mounts bolt to them". From '32 to ~'37/38? the mounts didn't bolt to the water pumps.
