I really like the color of the Blitzen benz race car motor and would like to duplicate close as possible the engine color for my Model A motor. It almost looks like a Pontiac color. Any ideas would be helpful .
I saw it in person and its blue - ish grey. I thought Pontiac had a color like that, but I might be mistaken. Just like to get close with the color. Any cars used a blue - grey engine paint?
They have these things they call paint color charts...for all models of cars ,trucks, engines, do a search...this one here is engine paint colors but when I down loaded it just the colors came through not the text... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Maybe you can find something close and tint it to match. http://www.hirschauto.com/ENGINE-ENAMEL/productinfo/EE-QUART/
Go to your local paint distributor. They have chip decks. Find the color you think is closest and have them mix it.
There were a number of different 'Pontiac Blue' colors over the years, but that doesn't look like any of them to me. I think it's pretty close to 1966 Ford Marlin Blue: http://www.paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail.cgi?paintx=1966|Ford|Marlin Blue|9886
It's Daimler-Benz AG,of Germany , engine blue epoxy or after the merger with Chrysler, it's now Daimler-Chrysler AG engine blue enamal... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for all the tips! I was hoping to find something close out of a rattle can engine paint. Looks like I will get mixed and spray it with a gun
They have all the engine colors in rattle cans. Here's something I was just messing around with..it's just enamel engine color model paints that are brushed on..top right is Chrysler engine blue with just a speck of medium blue mixed in .. Below that on the right is Chrysler engine blue straight out of the bottle.. Bottom left is Chrysler engine blue mixed with a touch of Pontiac engine blue... Then the pictures are all the same just each one is a different setting on the tablet camera... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You DON'T have to use engine paint! But I'm not sure about using regular paint in a can for an engine. I've had luck with Centari, Single stage Urethane, Imron, and Base/Clear urethane. Spraying it is best, use a hardener in the paint for best results, resistance to spills, abrasion, etc. That's where spray bombs fall short. I'd pick a car color, have your local body shop supply mix it in acrylic enamel, and put it in a spray can, if you don't have a spray gun.
I was hoping to use engine paint and didn't think the regular paint would hold up to the heat. But reading some of the posts and other threads its seems to work,
I've used regular paint on lots of engines, even candy lacquers. My daily driver small block was painted with spray cans from Lowe's, it's been on there 10 years. It's all in the prep.
