Ok guys, I called myself doing a search but did not find what i am looking for. So, I am about to paint my 350 engine black. What is the best paint to use that will hold up and stay looking nice longer than 6 months? Can i use a regular BC/CC?

POR-15 engine paint kit. It's like a three step process, but it's worth it.
Holds up to all the engine compartment abuse and years of road time and still looks fresh. I've done all my engines with it and have lot's of miles and lot's of years on them, still look great.

You can use any regular automotive paint on your engine. The only place I've ever had issues is on the intake manifold exhaust crossover on SBC. I solved that problem by using a gasket with the intake crossover blocked off. This way the exhaust doesn't go thru it and burn off the paint. Just clean the parts well. I never used any primers either.

I used POR15 as a basecoat, then primer, then BC/CC. It's been two years and still looks great.

I've used PPG's DP50 epoxy as a base (over a block that was well cleaned)...then put PPG single stage or base coat color over that...have never had a problem...

Degreaser, etching primer and rattle-can Krylon. Works great, and unlike BC/CC it can be touched up easily, like when re-torquing head bolts, etc.

Block and heads, clean really well, wipe down with prep-sol or any bland of surface prep, wipe the prep-sol dry, shoot with any good grade paint, your favorite color.
This example was shot with PPG Deltron over bare block. No need for primer unless you want to.
If you use primer on any surface use the same system through out.
This engine had over 17,000 miles and still looked good.
Gloss paint is much easier to clean than a flat product.

PlastiKote is good stuff. My machine shop guy says it's a lot tougher to get off than OEM paint.

How hard/durable does POR15 get after it has fully cured?
