I am setting the engine and trans position and wondering if I am forgetting or overlooking anything. I have a four link so I can get my 2 degree angle on drive shaft. I made an engine cradle and trans mount. But when I look at everything I see the engine sits very low in the frame. I loaded the car with 1200 LBs of sand bags and I have 3” clearance under the engine. Providing I keep everything the same will three inches be OK for street use? The engine sits low enough now that I could actually have a roots style blower under the hood line. am i missing something important? http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu147/benahn/20151007_202520_zpsyguny7wc.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu147/benahn/20151007_091737_zpsc5bqwlud.jpg
I'm sure some are lower but I have 4 1/2" on my T. It is OK. I have to be careful over speed bumps and some driveway/parking lot entrances. I have a skid plate on my oil pan. Bill
I would want to install the engine as high as possible can and have the carb base level at ride height. It looks like you z'd the front quite a bit so it may take a little more firewall notch and a bump in the top of the center x to get where you want to be. My '40 Chevy has the lowest clearance of 3-1/2" as it passed the tranny pan. The engine is about 1-1/2" higher. It has an MII front and it does occasionally whack a R&P mount on gas station in-ground tank fill bumps. The exhaust pipesfrom the headers to the mufflers hang below the frame at its lowestpoint and they have become D shaped. It's borderline too low but it hasn't held me back. The main thing is to protect the oil pans.
