Hey all, I bought a 1990 Chevy C1500 to use for the engine and manual trans. It's the 4.3l fuel injected work truck. The more I think about it, I really don't want the look of all those wires and sensors under the hood, not to mention having to wire the computer in, but it was real cheep.

MY QUESTION: Can I just swap out the intake manifold for somthing out of an 80's 4.3l S-10 with a carburetor, for example? Are the heads completely different? If this will just bolt on, how about the fuel supply, sm. inline pump? This maybe a stupid question , but I am pretty unfamilliar with this sort of thing. Would I be better off selling it and buying somthing already carbureted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That engine probably has no provision for a mechanical fuel pump. You'd have to run an electric pump.

Make sure you can get an intake manifold that matches the heads. It would be tough to mount a carburetor to the throttle body intake...but not impossible.

You'll also have to swap out the ignition. The fuel injected engine relies on the computer to adjust the timing of the distributor.
