Hi, I wanted to see if I could track down where my engine was rebuilt. It has a rebuild tag that simply says "Automobile Supply co. ltd. 267 Fort st." I'm in Richmond BC, bought the chassis with engine in Victoria BC and the fellow said the car was originally from the prairie provinces. I googled the heck out of it and can't seem to find anything. I'm wondering if anyone on the Hamb has ever seen an engine rebuild tag like this and if they know where it's from. Thanks in advance for any help. Phil.
Looks like a standard rebuild tag used, different shops. I’d guess a shop would order them, place them then send it out.
I haven't dealt with them in decades but if I remember correctly this business was located in Detroit Michigan, on Fort Street, almost directly beneath the Ambassador Bridge. I used their cylinder head exchange service several times.
I know exactly where that is or was.... Been a while since I was there... It's in Detroit on Fort St. It's just east of Springwells in the south side of Fort St. near the old Fleetwood Cadillac****embly plant..
As a machinist living in Victoria, I haven't heard of the place and Fort Street here starts at the 500 block, so probably not this city. I looked at Detroit on Google maps, but there's several 267 Fort Streets (regular, south, west etc.). Maybe someone else can look and point out where it used to be.

The old Fleetwood Plant, Fort Shtreet would be to left you can see a traffic light in bottom left corner. Picture was taken in 1969 and was on internet. Evidently a hot day in Detroit with temp at 91 on billboard. I remember the Fleetwood and Fisher Body names from Detroit even though the majority of the companies were owned by GM. The old Fleetwood Plant was in south Detroit on Fort Street. The Fleetwood plant was old maybe a quarter mile long and bumped right up to the edge of Fort Street with only a sidewalk separating them. Fort Street was only a narrow four lanes and on the other side had houses, bars and businesses right up to edge of the street. There was a sidewalk but virtually no front yards. Back in the day in the summer driving down Fort you could look right into plant when the windows hinged in the middle were open. A rather smoky, dirty neighborhood with lots of industrial noise. They built Cadillac bodies there and transported on trucks and trains just bodies on a frame from firewall back. Haven’t lived in the Detroit area since 1982 but was born and raised in the south Detroit suburbs if you want to call them that. We drove though that area when we were in Michigan last October for a funeral of course a lot of the old neighborhoods, businesses and plants have been torn down but some of the old houses are still there. Some of that area has been torn out making way for the new bridge to (Geordie Howe) to Canada. A rather scary looking area now. In that area was a bakery (Oakwood Bakery) over a hundred years old that had the best bread, pepperoni rolls, etc all baked in brick ovens. I used to stop there after work.
smudge? i didn't even notice, thanks that was a good tip for old eyes that I have. Looks like it's stamped 49 in front of the address.
thanks for the confirmation about Victoria. I have spoken to some old timers from Victoria and they said the same thing about the addresses starting at 500 and also that they never was a machine shop down there so even if it had been shortened or renumbered it still wasn't there. Also one of them had seen a tag similar on an old project and tried to track it down as well.
