I'm getting ready to put a 427 in a '40 pickup, already has a MII setup in it, and I have a couple 4x4 oil pans. I have found a few folks who have done this in the past, in fact I found a guy who bought one with a 428CJ in it to get the engine for anther car, and has the headers and modified pan from that car I can buy. I saw a very nice coupe two weeks ago at the Santa Rosa swap meet with a blown 426 Hammy in it with MII, and it fit just fine, looked great.
I also have the complete driveline still in my old Lincoln LSC, 5.0HO, AOD, and 8.8, 4 wheels discs, etc. the my ex-GF merged with a minivan, would be the "easy" way, but I have 10 427's so what the hell- nothing sounds like a good FE with a lotta squeeze and a lotta stick. I also have an extra built C6 with a 10" converter and shifter, and a Mark Williams 40-spline rearend with a 4-link and 14" wide rims and Mickeys so the basics are all here
Nice to see you can think for yourself, and are not Chebbie-brainwashed LOL

  2. I am in the same process with my 37 humpback tudor. Have a buddy selling a 302/C4 and one selling a newer 5.8 (351) and an AOD. I decided to go AOD 351 and convert it back to carb. Also have a M2 rack installed but stock firewall. Trying to get it in w/out cutting. Will try the small pump and maybe a pusher fan or serp belts. Drop the motor a bit if needed. NO GM here. Not sure but I think it will be lighter than the 390 you are thinking Choggie?

  3. Before seeing this response I read the thread and instanly remembered looking at a 39 for sale back in 68 that had a 389 pontiac in it with tri power. This was in MA, .Dorchester. It was a good looking mill and looked right in there.

If you want to go crazy,
I'd try one of these ford/lincoln 4.6 32 valve engines.

If you can figure out an early style intake manifold,
and a decent transmission configuration, like a t-10/t-5 or something,
It could be the next thing.
Those quad 4's really took off once someone figured out how to run them in-line.

The already make superchargers for them,
I bet they would look really trick without all the smog stuff.

Yeah its not hamb friendly but whatever.
    I've got a 40 with a 59a flathead,
and another 40 with a huge early cadillac flathead,
    so anything will fit.
