Probably not a good idea to force it to break free

My 324 Olds was seized when I purchased my 34...removed heads and soaked the bores in penetrating oil for a couple of weeks (I was in no hurry). Ended up stripping the engine and reboring it .030 oversize..Caused by head gaskets leaking water into
1 of the cylinders. The 1 offending piston I had to beat out with a 2x4 and a LARGE hammer.
The 1 bore had pit marks so a rebore was in order..
Egge Machine supplied all the parts for me..also check the HAMB vendor list.

By the same token if the engine is complete and still in the vehicle try squirting penetrating oil in thru the sparkplug holes...big breaker bar on the cranknut or else a pry bar on the flex plate or flywheel and give it ****. Take your time and if it moves gently keep working it forward and backwards. If it does come free keep soaking it with oil so maybe the rings may free up as well. If works make sure it turns over freely before putting the sparkplugs back in and firing it up. If its a keeper give it a compression test/va*** guage test.
It just might be your lucky day.

    cheers Bryan

  4. It depends greatly on why it's stuck, you need to provide more details on what it is, when it last ran, etc. -

I have put several old motors back in commission.9 times out of 10 it is not that hard.

Take out the spark plugs and put some oil down the cylinders. There are different opinions on what to use, some say a mixture of automatic transmission fluid and kerosene is good, others say Marvel Mystery Oil or other concoctions. The main thing is to get the pistons and valves oiled up.

If it is an OHV take off the valve covers, oil the valves and tap them with a hammer. You don't have to hit very hard. If the valve is free the hammer will bounce, if the valve is stuck it will be like hitting a nail. Oil the valves, if they are stuck pry them up, they usually snap right up by the valve spring.

Try turning it over by hand, using the fan and pressing on the fan belt or with a wrench on the crankshaft. In some cases you may want to take the starter off and pry on the flywheel. This should be done with the plugs out.

If you can get it to turn over a couple of turns, and the valves all work, try the starter. Stand back or cover the engine with rags, oil can shoot out of the cylinders and fly 20 feet.

I have used this system or some variation on a dozen engines and was only stymied once. This was a 1950 Land Rover that was left outside with the air filter off, the spark plugs out and the hood open for 10 years. It was frozen up so bad it would have taken a safe cracker 2 years to get it free lol.

If it is a flathead V8 you can oil up the cylinders and also pour some down the intake for the valves. I had a 53 Ford flathead hardtop once that sat outdoors from 1970 to 1982 without moving, I soaked it for a couple of weeks and got it turning over, once it turned over it only took a few hours to get it running and it ran like a new motor.
