but first i have a couple noob questions for you guys that have more experience with sixes than i do.

first, here is a pic of my ride.

its got the stock 216 in it right now. i am finishing up the rebuild on a 250 from a 65 short step chevy to put in my pick'emup.

the questions i have are like so:

    1. does the 250 match up to the original three speed thats on the 216 now?
    2. it looks as if the 250 has side motor mounts, how the hell can i hook this to the frame with my lack of equipment to weld some stuff up?

    Thanks in advance!

You need the V-8 bellhousing from a '55 to '59 to adapt your 250 to the stock transmission. I'd suggest buying a bolt-in tubular V-8 crossmember for the front mounts. This should be a relatively strraight-forward swap.

You make any progress on the swap? I'm trying to do exactly what you plan on doing, and am having a hard time sorting everything out.

If I'm thinking this right, I would have to:

1)Use either a v8 crossmember, or the 250 mounts on stoveboltengineco
2)Use a 55-59 bellhousing, which should have the mounts that would work with my existing crossmember?

I hope to keep my stock 4 speed, driveline, and rear end.

Have you done a swap like this before OldSub?

You could do something a little different. I had a 51 GMC that used a single front mount and two mounts on the bellhousing. Why not do the same thing, build a mount bracket for mounting front engine to crossmember that is already there. Get a V8 truck bell housing, which has the mounts on the bellhousing. The 3 speed transmission may or may not bolt to the v8 bell housing.
