Thinking about pulling the 318 out of my Dodge and replacing it with a 360. 318 will go into my boat, as it needs to be repowered. While looking for a replacement 318 for the boat, I ran across a low mileage 360. I would rather have the bigger engine in my car than my boat! The catch is that the 360 is fuel injected. I am not interested in efi in my car or boat. I have no problem replacing the intake and ignition over to carburetor etc. My question: is there any difference between an efi and a naturally aspirated long block?
The only difference I know of is where the crank sensor mounta to the back of the block. Now to open the can of worms.... sort of. The 360 will be a magnum motor... will use a magnum specific carb intake. The torque convertor has different counterweights on it. Depending on what year your 318 is it probably doesn't have any. The 318 distributor will work. If your 318 happens to be a magnum... the intake will work. The rest is pretty much an even swap.
The magnum motors are generally considered "light weight" castings, which doesn't mean anything unless you want to bore it out - can't go too far.
Thanks guys, I am not sure I would want to invest in another intake manifold. My best bet is probably another carburated small block.
Just keep in mind that the 360 is externally balanced. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just be aware that 360's seem to **** gas at a greater rate than the 42 cubic inches would justify. Ray
That's been one of of my buddie's experience with carbed 350 engines. While they are reliable as all get out and have lots of power they drink gas like a barfly ****ing down pints at happy hour. His 360 matched my 454 for gas drinking ability.
