While I know it's best to remove the drivtrain prior to cutting out the old floor pan and welding in the new one, can you work around it?
may sound stupid but I almost always build the floors/firewall/ tunnel around the motor and trans. You know it will all fit when your done.
Whoo-wee alomst a shame to paint that firewall tinman !!! Sort of a catch 22 on the pans. Depends on your access, flexibility, and level of finish. But you can do it with the drive line installed
Thanks! to me its not anymore difficult to build around the power train than it is to take the stuff in and out 2-3 times just to make sure if dont hit.
I gotta side with Tin Man on this one. It seems every time I have ever built floor pans, trans tunnel and firewall components without the intended engine and distributor in it resulted in at least one do over. The only exception to that was a '30 Bantam coupe I built a few years ago where I pulled the drive train to get at some of the "tighter" spots to weld... If you can imagine tight spots in a clown car!
