Well, I am not too good at taking pictures of my progress in all of the tiny little steps it takes me to get somewhere, I usually just wait until I knock something out and then get a picture of the "money shot".

Well this ain't no different! Last week I sliced my decklid into a bazillion pieces and welded it all up to make the trunklid functional again. I got some cool Hinges from Crestliner last summer (the hinges were actually the first item I purchased for the lander, I bought them before I even got the donor car, it pays to plan ahead kids!)

I had it all working and looking OK last week but I decided I didn't like the Jigsaw puzzle look so I cut it all apart and made it out of one sheet of metal. I also redid all of the support structure. I used some 1/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch strap to make the main support for the hinge and I used some 1/16th inch plate for the support on the bottom of the decklid.

Here is the pieces from "before"

Here is the shortened, yet functioning decklid. I know this ain't as exciting to you all as throwing on a set of wheels, but I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. There was more engineering here than on the rest of the car.

  5. I always wondered how you got the trunk on the space truck to work, is it similar to the lander?

The Spacetruck isn't really anything similar to this one. I used the stock 60 Buick hinges on it. The decklid is still the same length, Just narrowed it. I had to make a bunch of reenforcing structure on it too. A decalid putting pressure on an unsupported panel will raise havoc with one's bodywork.

The lander is a lot stubbier and more sliced up than the bed of the spacetruck.

I think the cock pit look will be great! I can't wait to snuggle up next to you and listen to Brian Adams while flying down a lonely road.

Tingler, I don't know how that pattern got into the picture. I was making a metal Cod piece so I could be like Cameo in that "Word Up" video. It ended up like Blakie Lawless's from WASP though.

Mr. Valentine, You have no choice but to cuddle in the lander.

Nice work... But maybe you could make friends with some SCA members and they can help you with a very "Dungeons and Dragons" cod piece....:D:D:D

Work an electric clutch into the supercharger for extra effect.

I dunno, although I'm a Kiss fan & you can't beat them for entertainment value, for cod pieces, I prefer Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson...Gene's is part of the costume, Ian's is more...errmm...authentic :p

I still think this car needs a crossram style two four set up with two Greer/Prudhomme scoops. This car is Bad Ass I have seen it from the drawing though every stage and if you think the pictures are awsome wait untill you see it in person.

Lookin' good Plowboy. That thing is screamin' for a bubble top, or at least a very Bat-mobile inspired piece.

I would have to agree with Mel on both fronts. You are seriosly GAY, but this thing is a jaw dropper in person. If you guys liked the truck, just wait, this thing blows it away. Every inch is custom. Well that's enough compliments you homo!
