i was thinking the same thing. this is a waist of time. no one is right and no one is wrong. once again, i'm a chevy guy, but, when it comes to stump pulling, teeth ratling power a big block dodge will kick everyones ***.
i like motors that run!dont give a **** what kind it is and to you ih guys...we have four grain trucks and 3 are ih 345's...the design of the motor is sharp..look kool in a coupe...but aftermarket parts??not likely!! but you couldnt kill them motors with bazooka....
Jeebus Christmas! Who cares?! Chevy will probably always reign supreme in popularity for hot rod types. They are cheap, run great, can look great and are cheap! I have a 350 on a stand in my garage waiting to sit in the 32 frame. My truck has a 351C. Seems like time and time again, Ford always stacks up against the compe***ion and then some. If I had more burnable cash I would run a 302 with four 48s on top (sweet sounds). I don't, so I'm running a SBC. If it was all about the HP we would run nitro burnin' TF hemis in our cars! Once again, it's where we draw the line in respect to value, looks, dependability and HP (...and in what order we make those decisions).
Coolest "Calvin" sticker I saw was little Calvin ******* on a smaller Calvin ******* on an even smaller Calvin etc. etc..... Pretty deep.
Believe it or not....there are now aluminum intakes available for IH engines, along with headers, cam & valvetrain pieces, etc. Now if that isn't off-topic, I don't know what is.
Wait a minute! you guys are misunderstanding the point of this thread. I merely hoped to point out the potential of Ford power to those that never tried `em, and maybe dispell a few myths along the way. It's not like there isn't a million brand X powered Fords for you guys to cheer about. I dig cars and engines of all make and types. (I found a Seagrave/ Pierce Arrow V12 in a boneyard near here that I'm lusting to drag home). For a Ford guy though it's kinda tough to see how little interest there is in keeping those beautiful old Fords pure so to speak. Whatever! I can't explain it very well I guess because it's so obvious. Just imagine 95% of the cool Chevys or what have you with Ford power and think how would that be? Maybe all the Harleys with Honda V-Twins because they're smoother I guess??? I don't know, If you are'nt a Ford enthusiast you'll never understand.
I'd love to see Fords in Fords as well, but I hate their lack of interchangability. A few years ago I did a 390. Fun to Build, but a royal PITA to sort out the valve-train. I sold it after several repeats of fixing a bent pushrod. Chevy guys never have these problems. I'M JUST NOT CLEVER OR SMART ENOUGH TO HAVE A FORD. Also, I think for hot rods, there was an issue of the oilpan clearance favoring the SBC.
I see your point. The Ford Power shown in that contest is good to hear, and like you said, may dispell some of the poor performance rumors. I read your post to also ask why more Ford in Ford cars haven't been built. Like any make or model, you do have to know their in's and out's, I've found Ford's to have quite a few. I just picked up a 96 Mark 8 with a 4.6, 4 cam to swap into my next project. Guess I'll find out how many differences there are between the Lincoln and the Cobra.
G***er, the architecture is the same but the early (pre-99 IIRC) Cobra and Lincoln DOHCs had a different intake port design than the later ones. Good luck w/ the project and send me some pics of the install. What're you doing for induction? Hank
