I found out today that one of my favourite English magazines doesn't exist anymore.
I let my sub go because of a rude person at the subsciption department, and I thought after about 10 years I had been mad long enough...

The magazine was Cars & Car Conversions, by Link House Magazines Ltd.

Not a Hot Rod related Magazine but I have gotten a lot of info out of it that I have used on Hot Rods...
Are there any Brit HAMBers that could try and help me to complete my collection? I have most issues from '68 to Dec '95 ... ( there is a little gap in the middle, but I can probably find those on the UK Ebay )
I am willing to pay what ever is reasonable for the Magazines and the shipping.
I think they went out of business in about 2003, so we are talking 8 years worth...

Maybe somebody knows where I should start the search...
Like maybe a UK second hand Book Store, or something.
    Thanks...

  3. Metalshapes,

I used to get Triple C every month as well, sadly for the last few years before its demise, it was a shadow of its former self, and nothing like it used to be. It merged with another mag in the late 90's (97? maybe) and that really was the beginning of the end. :(

It may well be worth placing a 'wanted' advert on the UK NSRA Forum HERE to see if anyone has some they want to get rid of.

Other than that, try ePay, or possibly someone like Motorbooks in Brentford, Middle***. England.

    Regard's

    Thanks Dave.
I was really dissapointed to find out it was gone.
There was so much good info in it ( Although I did not see it in the bad years ).
Is there anything that took its place?

  5. Sadly not, as at the time of its demise, the whole 'bling, bling, dumb a$$ H*nda/Toyota Fast & Furious' **** was just getting big...so if you wanna know how to play with the older cars, you will have to rely on old copies & websites sadly.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...one more of the old favorites gone.... :(

    dave

PS. I apologise for the use of the words H*nda & Toyota

So they just slit their own throat?
That was about the last magazine I would expect to do that...

  7. As you know from reading it, Triple C was a compe***ion type car based magazine. It lived its life with stories of ******s & Mini's, both of which I rallied back home in England :D Those were fun times, but with the whole motorsport thing getting more expensive, people were just not willing to pour thousands into repairing a 20 year old ****** shell to then spend a heap more to build a rally/race car, that, lets face it, was going to be underpowered & slower than most of the 'stock' group N rally cars.

These were little more than kit cars, so the whole...little guy in a garage working on his car thing just kinda faded away...along with the readership :(

As for Limey mags, I REALLY like Custom Car. They do a load of shade tree stuff. There's another one, called American Cl***ics or something, it's not half bad either. Check them out and see if anyone of them fits the bill. I wished we had a Custom Car here, but the country is too big for the closeness or familarity you get with the cars in the UK scene.

For back issues try this guy. www.allautobooks.com
He deals in second hand books and magazines.

There is a new magazine that has recently started to replace CCC and its called PPC!!
Practical Performance Car has got some of the original CCC staff including the big guns Dave Walker and Dave Vizard. Its nowhere near as good as what CCC was in its peak, but its still a good read and getting better every month as its only been running less than a year.

Vizard? Wow, he's been doing it for ever. I've got his A-series tune book sat on a shelf next to my PC.

  11. When I used to work at R*pspeed back in the UK, we used to have a copy of his How to modify your mini as well as the big blue Tuning BL A Series book under each counter...they were (and still are) the mini bible's!!

Very talented man, his daughter used to drag race a 1275gt....that he built the enging in...yeah, it was quick :D

    Thanks for your help guys...
I just talked to Kevin at PPC, and send him a Email.
I got a subscription and I should get my first issue in about 3 weeks.
Kevin ( a editor at PPC ) said the Magazine is styled to be like triple C was 10 years ago...
The amount of info available on the HAMB is absolutely amazing...
