My son picked this up for $10 at a swap meet , his fiancée was very sceptical . He tossed out the wood and made an engine turned panel , she changed her mind quickly ,its going in a period 32 roadster. I am leaning toward later 60s triumph (maybe) because of the KPH numbers . But we need a speedo cable , so any thoughts on what we might be looking for?? One end is a known C4. The other ???
The numbers just above the Jaeger script will tell you what car and axle ratio it originally came from or if it’s aftermarket
Gauges ( not the insert ) are almost 99% the same as Sunbeam Rapier and Sunbeam Alpine which go to 120 mph.
Many thanks @Oneball . Strange how they had KPH on it as well that far back. So I imagine any speedometer cable from that family era will fit, probably right up to the 70s Hillman ,maybe. or maybe not as 70s Hillmans had a ribbon type speedo face.
Not a problem at all to make up a cable for that. If you can post a pic of the back of the speedometer, I think it's a 12x1 English nut and ferrule. Thanks for the page (51504bat) Drop me a line or call www.speedoservice.com
The other thing to keep in mind is that most US speedometers are 1000 cable revolutions per mile by the dial picture this speedometer is 1600 revolutions per mile. So a gear ratio adapter may be needed for calibration. That means a T5 Ford adapter for the transmission end of the cable( it has 7/8-18 threads on it for install of a speedometer gear ratio adapter) I have all of this in stock if needed. Just a heads up, I know New Zealand’s inspection for safety and speedometer calibration is strict from experience with New Zealand customers in the past. Was it you I helped with on the Cadillac speedometer calibration?
Sheesh , many thanks Rusty @e1956v that was a pitfall I wasn’t aware of with the different revolutions. , as you can see from my speedo pic we are from down under. No Cadillac speedo here . Yep our inspections can be a PIA sometimes. Will PM you our requirements.
Helped some New Zealanders with calibration on a 60's Cadillac and the inspector was wanting calibration tolerances that were closer than the factory GM spec's for the car. Its ok I stood on my head to look at the pic of the speedo and everything was good.
It may not be American , but at least it is still pre 65 cut off point. @e1956v ,speedometer service, made a specific cable for our needs, beautiful work alas it will be mostly hidden . A great price and arrived quickly. Top alliance member.
I've had 3 dealings with @e1956v and all were extremely positive. Can't say enough good things about Rusty.
