Ah ha, see? you questioned me when I said I wanted smaller lights on mine.

I agree the parking lights on top are so Y2K.:D

I had some nice small ones over 40 years ago on a 50s built car, but I sure don't recall if there was a brand name. Painted bucket, chrome or stainless rim. The buckets were not as pointed.

and small tail pipes are what it should have, so you get one attaboy

I'm not against the signal on top, per se... or the size really, I just wouldn't want anything larger. I just want some old lights.

No old truck junkyards nearby? That's where you will find some.

There are a few... but most of them have crushed all that era stuff out and what's left is picked over pretty hard or rotted into the ground. :(

Greta job! The car screams Hot Rod. I can't believe you busted this out in such a short amount of time, all the while having a great attitude and not taking time away because you "got stuck on a certain point of the build and needed to take a break" like most of us do on builds.

How many hours do you estimate you have into it?

Holy Smokes Andy - that's exciting! So happy for you! Hey the charging part, I couldn't tell from your pic of your voltage regulator but it kinda looked GM? Anyway here's a pic to be certain and a good article to check it out.

THanks, I'm not sure how many hours, I didn't really keep track... figure about 2-4 hours a day a 3 or 4 days M-F and probably 6-12 hours a day most but not all sat and sundays since Dec.

Thanks Kathy, yes it's a GM regulator, and a beat up old ford generator. I'll check out the link and see what's up.

That's the plan Dave! Thanks bud!

    Thanks fellas!

Andy, I tried to use a Ford regulator with an Autolite(Chrysler) generator and it wouldn't work. I think they have to match. As soon as I robbed an autolite regulator off an old motor - it started charging. Took me forever to figure it out.

I want to see a driving video - you can make it when your pretend sleeping!;)

  16. That thing sounds great! I'm giving you the slow clap right now. Bravo! Oh and x12 on the driving video...

Have you tried polarizing the regulator?

I meant Big truck and "earthmoving equipment" junkyards. I've seen cool old style lights on stuff all the way into the 60s...even on old roadgraders and tractors, needle nosed Peterbuilts, Autocars, etc.

  23. That thing looks awesome and sounds great! I can't wait for guys to ask you where you got it, and you reply "Jeffrey James thought it was too far gone, so I bought it and had it running/driving in a couple months". Would it be a lie?????

Did a bunch of stuff today... Installed the rear shocks. Hooked up the e-brake and got it operational. Greased the rear wheel bearings up while I had the hubs off... I hope these last a few thousand miles until I get the QC under there, the shitty bearing surfaces on the rear cones have me a little spooked... Adjusted the valves which were making a bit of clatter, some were tight some were loose, all dialed in now. Changed out my leaky brake light switch and adjusted the brake linkage again, pedal feels GREAT now. Made some small exhaust baffles to allow oneself to think and see straight while sitting in the car with it running. Figured out my charging problem and fixed it. Installed a 13lb cap which in turn made a radiator leak apparent where I blocked off the hole from switching the inlet over to the driver's side... grrr, if it ain't one thing... at least it's on the top side so I think I can solder it up without pulling the radiator.

Going to the DMV tomorrow to get plates!

That's so awesome. Nice to get a bunch of smaller things done than little progress done on big issues. Can't wait to see it in person.
