Those Y blocks sure are nice. One of my favorite V8s, togheter w/ the little Buick/rover.

    Amazing work so far.

On a side note. Theres 2 of those sedan to coup conversions areound here, one is Ragno here in italy and the other in Swiss from the Cheaters.

Engine rebuild... it's thoroughly smoked..., LOWww compression in almost all cyls, very little oil to the top end, mediocre oil pressure, pulled the rear seal cap to change a leaky ass rear main and the main bearings are toast as well. Time for an overhaul.

I'd more than happy to send it your way Mat but the shop owner is good buddies with a local guy that gets all our rebuilds....:( will keep it in mind for personal stuff though.

  10. hey thats awesome, i totally dig supporting the local guy, i just wanted to mention it before someone goes to the wrong shop and gets taken advantage of! thanks and dont hesitate to get ahold of me if you need anything.

    Will do Matt, thanks!

Had some fun today, after I got home from work I drilled out about 5,000 pop rivets in the roof insert and pulled that mess off, chiseled out the old tack strip... the tack strip channel is actually in spectacular shape, probably the nicest part of the car besides the hood.

and... well, long story short... after that I cut the car in half and threw it on the frame to see what's what.:D:D:D

I just couldn't help myself, I had to dig the hood out and throw it on there too...

and a little photochop action to soothe my soul and give you a little preview of what's to come...

    oh yea...

Astute eyes will notice that the old timer who had this car before JJ, god rest his soul, welded the passenger side A pillar to the subrail almost and entire INCH higher than the driver's side... I guess he blew all his money on that flux core welder and couldn't afford a tape measure.

But Andy that old man worked on it every day for a couple years.......and they did stress EVERY DAY so surely he HAD to be right haha!!!! The neighbors were like "when do you think it'll be on the road?". I had to tell them oh in about 10 years because I didn't want to tell that I was just going to part that thing out.

I for one am incredibly excited for this car. I've gathered a few more things for mine and my brother got me some new wheels for it for CHristmas. I might be on the hunt for some U bolts and a 32-34 Perch Bolt if you know of any :D

    Killer progress today Andy.

Yea, i'm pretty effin' geeked about it too! can't wait to start lining everything up and see the body come together. Just need some inner fenders, a decklid, and a few patch panels yet to complete the kit...

I have a pair of repop square top U bolts that I'm not gonna use on this car because of the raised front crossmember, (very little fan clearance, gonna weld long nuts to the front and rear of the spring pocket)... they're yours if you can use them. Perch pins may be hard to come by if you need originals... I had this pair of repops laying around for years...

Ahh I will take those if you don't need them. As for the Perch bolt my OGRE friend Chris supplied me with one but I can't seem to find a matching original. I'm sure it'll come up and I'm in no rush. Score a mint original spring last night from a friend so I'm almost a roller. Geesh, a roller.......took me a year and a half to get close to what you accomplished in a day and a half with yours. :D

ahem...at least there was no penetration... I removed this "patch" with a pair of pliers...

Not only are the pillars welded to the subrails at the wrong/different height, they're also in the wrong place fore and aft... sheesh! Cut it all apart, line it up, zap it back together...
    zim zala bim...

Don't get me wrong Jeff, I'm not complaining, I knew exactly what I was getting into and I'm actually glad there are brand new subrails to work with under all that shit! At least he didn't have a more powerful welder, haha!!

and don't apologize, you didn't have anything to do with it. Thanks mang, yep it's gonna be purty as a coupe!

Haha, sure thing man, as long as I don't run out of play money I'll keep cranking right along! I'm gonna spring for one of these too...Hamber R.C. is reproducing them now with the help of Bob Wilson. Gotta dig through my banjo inventory for a nice center and pinion to send out...

Damn it, I was just looking at quickies the other day after talking about them on this thread. Just kinda outta my reach right now but maybe at the end of 2012 if I sell some more shit.

    Go man go!

    Thanks Nick!

I have the best wife ever... she actually suggested that I blow off the rest of my honey-do list to work on the coupe today! I decided to start calling it a coupe from here on out...

Welded up a big ass hole and several small ones in the upper firewall. I'm gonna have to fab a new recessed lower portion, possibly a little removable panel to facilitate distributor removal as well... I also cut up a few pieces of junky cowl vent mechanisms that came with the car to make one good operable cowl vent.
