The center 6 bars or so were pretty stretched, the problem with simply heat shrinking them is that only the rear edges of the bars are really stretched out, I find it best to heat them up and "shove" them in the right direction, repeated shove/straighten technique will eventually get them back to where they need to be.

Thanks guys, again special thanks to oktunes for the grille, I really couldn't have afforded to get into one this nice without being able to rescue this one. Hope this helps somone save another one somewhere and turn a wallhanger into a car part.

Scored a pretty decent decklid in the classifieds yesterday too so there's another piece of the puzzle sorted... I think I'll tackle the steering box/column now that the cowl is mounted to the frame and in place... stay tuned...

You are outstanding man. I'm excited to watch the rest of this build... builds like this keep me going until I'll be able to dive in to a project again.

  8. This is a great build! I love the use of old parts were ever possible......gives me inspiration to build my 32 3 window and 33 4 door rusty yard art parts into a coupe someday!

  9. This is one of the great ones.

When everything just seems to fall into place...

It makes the build just that much more fun.

Scoring that grille... man, that sealed the deal for stardom.

We'll see you out at Bonneville... be sure to stop by our pits and say hello!

That grille is looking good! I've got a '34 grille with some wavy bars in it (side to side), I assume this technique will work on them? I may just have to give it a try.

Little progress today, I chopped the flange off an F1 box and made a new one... got it lined up and dropped the column a bit so the wheel will clear the glass/dash once the A pillars are laid back. Burned the new flange on, passed the box through the framerail about .25" for a little extra room in the oil filter area, should be able to spin on a full size filter with no issues... shortened up an old tie rod for a dragllink, Should work pretty nice! Still gotta heat the pitman and steering arms a bit and finesse them into place but it STEERS!:) Sorta... I need a keyed shaft end to splice onto this splined F1 shaft.

My good buddy, neighbor, and club brother Leroy also hooked me UP with the old door off Jerry Rein's (RIP) wrecked coupe so I can piece a good bottom together. I should be able to use it to make a pattern for the other side as well as old timer cut these doors off right below the bottom hinge. Thanks bud!

Amazing build...You should have seen the look on my wifes face when she looked over my shoulder at the back half of the coupe on that trailer! She asked why there was a picture of scrap on there? I told her in my hands its scrap, to guys like this its gold...

Oh and one more quick thing/thanks... thanks to the power of the hamb, my club bro "Brother" Bob Wilson, and two of my good pals, STEPHEN FIELDS and hotdamn, I was able to snag a pair of original ramhorn manifolds for this car! They're really the only thing other than a custom built pair of headers that will work in this chassis. Bob hooked me up with these vintage hedmans... which I think are totally badass... too bad they dump right into the cowl...

I knew hotdamn had these for sale, but by the time I got ahold of him, he had already traded them to Steve for something else... well a few pms and phone calls later and we struck a deal... three-way trade!:D Thanks guys!

Doesn't matter much, as short as a 5 inches would probably do the trick.

Andy; I'd run the super rare Tri-Y's if it had the right "spread" to be able to get inside the rails. Cut off the lower Y right below the weld joint, and then fab a new straight dump Y. Those are way too cool to ignore.

Besides, some people will think you have a sbc with Ford valve covers, if you use "ram horns" :)

Frank I was SOOo excited to get these but there's just no way to make them work without really chopping them up... which would be a crime in itself I think, they're in perfect shape. They just stick out way too far, almost over the outside edge of the rails... I thought about just tweaking the collector a bit and running them out and then under, but that would mean no hoodsides and I just couldn't envision it looking right so.... I was bummed about that, but I can definitely live with OG ramhorns. I like SBC's too, haha!

  25. Rams horn's are BEAUTIFUL! I had a ton of Y block stuff but just sold all of it to help pay for that roadster I bought. Still have one thing though...

I need to run one in something one day. I had all that Y block stuff for years, but anything not nailed down was for sale :D Next to a flathead, they are my favorite engine!!!

yea, it's super tight... I'm gonna have to make a curvy steel tubing lower hose and just connect the ends with rubber hose... no two ways around it.

  29. Looking good Andy, had no idea you were building this until Jim F. told me last Friday when he stopped over. I'll have to stop by to check it out one of these days. I got a complete set of old Stewart Warner gauges that would look good in that thing.

Thanks Scott, stop by whenever, gimme a ring!

Just a little progress tonight... cut the door bottom off the door Leroy gave me, did I mention the car was wrecked?

After a few blows from my favorite ford tool...

New bottom welded on... Going to make a mirror image of this whole panel for the driver's side.

These are the two pieces of the inner that I'll have to copy for the driver's side
    [IMG]

And last but not least, these both came into my posession today!
