Who can give some history on Eric Vaughn & Eric Vaugh Wheels? Plus, other companies he has been associated with. Appreciate it. The car I purchased came with some. Supposedly from the '80s. I've had American Rebel Sprints on a past car & thought they were great. 32 5 Window by All American 6 posted Feb 16, 2025 at 7:46 PM 32 5 Window by All American 6 posted Feb 16, 2025 at 7:46 PM
I found this: https://realrodders.com/about-us/ Classic design, solid engineering, and superb quality have made Eric Vaughn’s aluminum Real Wheels the first choice of many professional hot rod builders since they were introduced back in 1983. In 2004, after many years of very limited production runs and sporadic availability, Pat O’Brien bought the Real Wheels name and molds, and started a new company called, Real Rodders Wheels. The company is owned and operated by hot rodders and racers. Our new products retain the same very high quality and materials that Real Wheels became known for, but with quicker delivery, and a larger selection of sizes and styles of the “original classic wheels”.
I've got a pair. Very accurate design / measurement wise. I've also got a pair of...Halibrands the same size. Side by side, you can't tell them apart spoke design, depth wise. Don't know much history, except what everyone else knows. As I recall, back when I got these wheels, Eric was still modifying (narrowing and widening) his wheels. But that was a...long time back. Used several sets of Eric Vaughn wheels. They were very high quality. Never could get wheels from Pat O'Brien, always in the works? I have a set of American Rebel Sprint style wheels 15X4.5 & 15X10 on my deuce highboy sedan. They seem comparable in quality to Eric's Real Wheels. I'd buy another set.
I've known Eric for over 40 years and consider him to be one of the most accomplished and talented machinist in the Hot Rod community. I picked up my wheels from him in '84 and they still are perfect. I talked to Eric at the last GNRS and he's in a semiretirement mode now. Time for him to enjoy his many projects.
I have never owned any , but friends have owed them , they are top shelf stuff . I have had friends that had wheels narrowed by Eric centuries ago . He cut a key into the 1/2s and welded them back up machined the area as nice as untouched wheel . Biggest task to repairing a wheel is match the alloy in color and strength .
I had Eric make me some trick 8's before there was such a thing. Cutting 2 inches out of the back side of his and Halibrand 15X10's to make a deep dish 8. Also narrowing pin drive knockoff fronts to 4.5 from 6. Every one was perfect.
