Dies anyone know what year they were two peace and what years were one peace. And were the one peace ones Magnesum or Aluminum????????
Aluminum only. I think there was overlap on the construction technique over the years. I believe the one piece wheels came first though - the technology to attach a cast aluminum center to a rolled steel rim allowed them to build the wheels cheaper so some manufacturers went that way. Too bad, as not only did the cost to build get cheaper, so did the quality Steve
Only aluminum no Magnesium. Ok I have a pair of one peace and was told that they were a magnesium wheel, but if not no big thing just as hard to find two more of them..Thanks.
The test to confirm whether the wheel is Aluminum or Magnesium is simple, just curb the wheel 'slightly' at about sixty mph, if they burst into a white hot fire that can not be put out and you stand by helplessly while your whole car is engulfed in flames, then it it Magnesium. If not, then it's Aluminum. Any questions?
There might be a simpler way! I'm just sayin... Magnesium castings usually darken in color as they oxidize. Aluminum tends to get lighter. Having said that, I agree with ts3...I don't think ET ever made "mag" mags, unless they were VERY early race wheels or prototypes...
